neutral should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A light-hearted review of the 2000 season.

The start of the season, what could we expect?
Schumi and Mika - the rest will be decked.
'Cos then, as was prior (and for years to come?),
To contemplate others would make you sound dumb.
But what of these others, like Jordan and Co?
Who would have thought they would be so slow?

Off with a bang in Austrailia
Where it was Schumi who climbed the top tier.
He set off to do, and did, what he said,
By screaming away and painting the town Red.
By contrast Ron Dennis was forced to stay mute
After seeing his grey cars blow up en-route.
And finally JV and Riccardo came good
As Salo's front wing was not as it should.

Then to Brazil for another botched job,
This time it's David who's forced to sob.
It's Schumacher first, but he's lucky to win,
As the whole field fall foul of a sin.
Just brave Fisichella had no wear on his 'plank',
And for not winning, he's the FIA to thank.
Another bad day for poor old Dennis,
But for Todt it gets no better than this.

Six long years after Roland and Senna,
Imola again has Schumi the winner.
But when Rubens is doubtful of Schumacher's pace,
He is quickly 'reminded' and but back in his place.
After the pitstop Mika started to slow,
Did it cost the race? Well, we'll never know.
But Schumi went on and full of glee,
Promptly made Imola three out of three.

I was at Silverstone for the British GP,
And despite the wash-out I was able to see:
Poor Barrichello, who try as he might,
Still had his first win just out of sight.
Leading the race up right up to half time,
Before 'bang' went the car, and DC said "Mine!".
Out of the Macs he didn't come last,
For once he left Mika thoroughly out-classed.

Barcelona, and the Macs continue to fight,
Determined to not let Michael right out of sight.
Mika's first win of the millenium,
And a McLaren 1-2 keep the Reds under thumb.
Fifth place was all that MS could do,
After a 'dodgy' pit-stop, or two.
And poor de la Rosa, thrown right to the back,
Managed to make it just once 'round the track.

Europe or Luxemburg? They're both the same.
Germany II more like, but what's in a name?
Another wet race and another win for the Red,
With Michael (and Mika) simply miles ahead.
Just two completed the 67 laps,
Many succumbing to a concentration lapse.
Johnny, Jenson, Jos and Irvine came off worst,
Two seperate crashes triggered by Zonta and Wurz.

Alas at Monaco, the Prancing Horse falls,
(Or was Michael guilty of bashing at walls?)
But Ralfie and Diniz, they couldn't hide,
As, like some others, they whacked St. Devote's side.
Coulthard cruised home to a great victory,
(A win that was destined for Jarno Trulli?)
And Fisi who always excels in this race,
Did not disappoint, with a brilliant third place.

Did a startline infringement cost DC the race?
Well, possibly not, but he still showed good pace.
Coulthard's loss turned into Michael's gain,
And, as you'd expect, pulled away in the rain.
A Ferrari 1-2 from the off to the top,
With Giancarlo Fisichella taking third spot.
Arrows' proved that their speed was not just a myth,
As Verstappen stormed home to a creditable fifth.

Off to France for a McLaren victory,
As Schumi was passed cooly by Mika and DC.
Closing on Schumi, the title was not over yet,
As the Macs proved, there were still points to get.
While Schumi was halted because of his car,
Again shone JV with a result for BAR.
But poor HH Frentzen, who last year won here,
Finished 7th with just five points from the whole year.

Crashes at Zeltweg, like Diniz and Fisi,
But Schumi and Zonta more importantly.
When the race fell to Mika who won it with ease,
The Macs lost their points, and left them displeased.
Again Jean crashed from the Austrian race,
(But this time no Fisi with egg on his face)
If trashing his own car wasn't enough cost,
Just for good measure he wrecked the other Prost.

A start-shunt with Fisi was enough to foil
Deutschland's first Son there on his home soil.
For Michael Hockenheim was far from a dream,
But not so for Rubens, wet weather supreme.
Starting so far back, he scorched lap after lap.
Ensuring the Macs didn't make a huge gap.
The race was slowed down by a Mercedes protest,
And in the final few laps Rubens beat the rest.

A poor day for Ferrari, not so for the Finn,
Who cruised home for another Hungarian win.
After another great start from the second row,
There was only one way for this race to go.
Unlucky Alain was still feeling the worst,
As again both his cars retired first.
More bad luck to Button who went well in the race,
Until closing stage problems crippled his pace.

Next off to Spa, where the tension was huge,
Would JV finally take it flat through Eau Rouge?
Starting the wet race, it wasn't too fast,
But thankfully no crashes like we've seen in the past.
Who could win here? Well Michael of course,
He led the field most times through La Source.
But in the end stage Mika was able to prove
That he's still a match with a great winning move.

Two pile-ups at Monza - cars all over the place,
Just why didn't Whiting choose to stop the race?
Verstappen and Zonta then sliced through the field,
(Save Mika and Michael) they all had to yield.
Unlike some past years, the race was no bore,
In fact it was perfect, except for one flaw.
Paolo Gislimberti, a marshal, had died,
"I can't answer questions." a sad Schumacher cried.

The US GP and its famous brick yard,
Where Gaston no-longer looked the retard.
While battling Mika he kept him behind,
For once with no question of being fined.
Ferrari looked cool, while McLaren looked dire,
To make matters worse, Mika's engine caught fire.
Schumi cruised home to a comfortable win,
(Despite the detour of an embarassing spin!)

Mika's Championship fight, in Japan, looked sustained,
He had a reasonable lead, until it rained.
Then back struck Schumi, the sure-fire bet,
To come out on top if it stayed wet.
"I'll break all the records at any cost!";
His wins are bettered only by Alain Prost.
Praise came from Todt, who couldn't hide his delight,
Not just to Michael, but for Mika's brave fight.

Schumi's Malaysian victory was win number nine;
Unlucky for Mika who moved on the line.
It spoiled what would have been a classic duel -
Mika so fast despite so much fuel.
DC's great drive saw him just pipped to first
And worthy mention to a fine drive by Wurz.
And poor, luckless Herbert, his career derailed
When, as per usual, his Jaguar failed.

So "Well Done!" to Michael, an excellent year,
And also to Mika for not shedding a tear.
DC and Button, Herbert and Irvine -
You did well for Britain - no need to whine.
Well done to Rubens for dancing Schumi's tune,
And to Alex and Zonta, please come back soon.
Frentzen and Trulli - you tried your best -
(But clearly Ralf Schumi was "Best of the rest")
Also to Fisi, Verstappen and Jacques,
You three, too, need a big pat on the back.
Well done to Burti on his single race,
And to Pedro and Gene and their new Spanish craze,
Finally Jean, Heidfeld, Salo and Diniz,
And lastly to Gaston, for not taking the ****.

A word to the Marshals, organisers and such,
For all their hard work, we say "Thanks very much."
To Bernie and Mosley, Charlie and the Prof,
See you next year, you deserve a break off.

Thanks for reading.

Cool...and funny

Are you a literature scholar or something like that? Cos I could never go beyond a five-liner.
