They just copied the message from the Motorsport Aktuell. This was to be expected, because they had to fight to get into the Mercedes-programm last year, and this summer they tried to get into the Audi-package, without any luck ofcourse. Mücke also tried to get in last year, but lost the battle at that point to Rosberg. If Mücke Motorsport will get in DTM, I think Stefan Mücke has a good chance of getting a car.

So it's 6 drivers (Schneider, Alesi, Paffett, Häkkinen, Albers and Green) lining up for 5 HWA cars.

With Albers saying that he wants to go to F1 he should move now before his chances are gone. (Wonder if he can motivate himself for another season in DTM after missing out on the title twice).

100% confirmed Green will drive an '05 car.

I'm not sure if anybody realises but Alesi is still not confirmed.Only Schneider, Paffett, Hakkinen and Green are confirmed.

I don't even see the letter 5 in it.

Call me bad, but are there are any conspiracy theories regarding why Gabriel Seresina is retiring? Didn't get the works contract? Uncompetitive car and drivers?

Opel is cutting back their DTM involvement so I think theirs no room for Euroteam to run a car. I think it's financial not possible for privateers to to enter a car.

DTM star Christijan Albers and Euro F3000 champion Nicky Pastorelli will test a ChampCar for Walker Racing at Sebring on December 14. Albers has recently tested for Formula One teams Jordan and Minardi, while Pastorelli has been driving the new Formula Superfund chassis

Regarding Euroteam's scaling down. If Opel Performance are going to run just four cars, assuming worst case they're re-used 2004 chassis, surely there are two going spare? If they're using new builds, then there are 6!

Even if there's no Euroteam, I see no reason why a privateer might not want to pick up a few Vectra's, if they can't buy any of the spare C-Klasse '04 or Audi A4 '04 cars that is

I was under the impression OPC was going to build at least 4 all new '05 cars and possibly more if they can find sponsors.

That's always been my suggestion, but for some reason, not many ex Works cars are making it to Independents.
There could be 3 possible reasons for this

1) For some reasons, manufacturers don't want their last year cars being raced. Don't want their tech secrets exposed?
2) They're asking too much for last year's cars.
3) No interest from privateers??? But what about all those ex-V8 Star or open wheel racing teams??? The DTM should have tried to lure all those ex-V8 Star teams over!

I thought I heard Reason #2 is why we don't see more cars racing?

If I was being cynical, I'd say Mercedes & Audi don't want to hand out last years cars to privateers so they don't see their name running around the back - as without the privateers, all the Opel's will be last!

I recall a bunch of people saying that. Wasn't that how Abt originally got into racing? They wanted to race a ST A4, but Audi didn't let them? So Abt sourced an old ST Audi 80 and threatened to race that? Then, Audi relented and gave them an A4 to race instead?

Interestingly, BMW doesn't really care. If you had the money, they would sell you an ex-Works car without hesitating?

There are no 2005 cars yet, so I wonder what you mean with DTM.de, because there are no 2005 cars there either

Interesting that Joest, a team with so much pedigree, has rather been relegated to junior status, running year-old cars (and the brother of the boss of the 'senior' Audi team!). Still, I expect Kristensen and McNish to shine alongside Ekstrom, though I can't quite see how Tomcyzk gets a 2005-spec car but Kaffer and Capello don't.

Tomcyzk has several years of DTM experience, Kaffer and Capello don't. (In the present era, anyway).

Tomcyzk did quite well last year (especially at the end of the season). His result in the last 4 races:
Oschersleben: 2nd (pole position)
Zandvoort: 2nd
Brno: crashed by Alberts while driving 2nd
Hockenheim: 2nd (pole position)

But this is indeed a pitty that other good pilots like Kaffer and Capello get an old car.

Still, Tomcyzk doesn't seem to have done much in his DTM career, really. He won a race a couple of years ago, I seem to recall, but since then Ekstrom has become the leading light of the Audi team, and Kristensen did OK this year. Personal choice of course, but I'd have put Capello or Kaffer in the new car. After all, Kaffer's certainly proved himself in prototypes, and he wasn't too shabby in the Porsche Supercup.

Abt has more experience in DTM. I think this a transition year for Joest, probably they will do only the Le Mans programme next year.
