2021 Calendar Changes

Hold on everyone, its look like we are in for some changes for the remainder of the 2021 season.

No surprise if as reported WA is dropped.

Bathurst delayed and a new event planned for Phillip Island.

Yes a number of 'definite maybes' and possibly might going on there. Lots of hints.

But we know Winton might be on Bathurst weekend and nothing is going to happen before that, with PI happening maybe on the cancelled Moto GP weekend and certainly nothing at QIR, (unless that changes) Perth, NZ or (for the time being) SMP....
But 12 rounds are possibly / likely going to happen.

Maybe.

Revised calendar dates confirmed by Supercars.

All subject to Covid-induced change of course - anything is possible.

It’s a brave person who thinks the new calendar will roll out as presented.

Casual contacts, close contacts, actual contacts.. in COVID19 are the smear on any kind of planning to haul stuff between states & markets.

It is currently, in my experience, at the worst of the impact since commencement on March 15th last year. Is it because we know better?
Or did the ‘she’ll be right’ get displaced by proper handling plans & protocols?

It absolutely ain’t over yet..

It would not surprise me if Supercars focus solely on getting Bathurst done in November then pulling up stumps.

The two rounds prior to Bathurst would have to be doubtful.

Isn't there a minimum number of rounds required to constitute the ATCC/Supercars Championship? Twelve rings a bell

Looking at the headlines today Bathurst might be a bit shaky but I am sure they will find a way. It was most probably moved back to avoid any threat of cancellation but after Christmas may have been a better time.

I'd think there is a minimum number of races in the TV deal.

Yes, the TV deal is based on minimum of 12 rounds. Other stipulations are 3 in NSW. (that latter aspect may be questionable via force majeure?
Plus also many of the major sponsors will have a minimum number of rounds stipulated (opportunities to see their brand featured reasons)

All those contracts will have Force Majeure clauses in them - standard practice really. Hopefully they get the events done but if they don't it'll be allowed for in the Force Majeure provisions.

I checked the AP Crystal Ball this afternoon...

Vaccinations will reach about 52% by the October long-weekend.
Cases will drop dramatically (due to the arrival of Spring)
Gladys will claim the fall in numbers is due to "the measures"
And we will have our own Freedom Day on the long weekend.....

St Gladys will wave her magic wand, claim credit for everything and life will be normal for summer.

It would be interesting to know if the tv contract is something along the lines of 12 events- 1 of which must be the Bathurst 1000.
If NSW is still black listed by the rest of Australia and they have to run The Bend 1000 or something that might not be enough to qualify for the tv money.

Surely it must. The insistence of a Bathurst race in the original V8Supercars TV contract is what started the whole Bathurst mess, and Bathurst certainly hasn’t lost popularity in the proceeding 24 years

One assumes many a team sponsorship is dependant on a Bathurst 1000 too

I doubt the casual observers will pay any attention to a Bend 1000, and they make up a slice of the annual Bathurst audience

It won't happen unless the teams can travel to NSW after PI, spectators might be able to attend from more remote areas (at the moment) but who knows. I put it in the wishful thinking category. The other problem is all the support personnel for TV and the race having to move from locked down areas to Bathurst, that could even be a bigger challenge.

I can't believe all the conditions there are.

3 rounds in NSW including the final round. This, that, and the other?

It shouldn't be that hard. What for?
