Nicholas should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Half of Kyalami to be sold

The owners of Kyalami have decided to sell half the circuit to a housing developer, because of the weak Rand. The shortened circuit will be only 2 miles long, too short for a GP.

I don't know whether this means that there will be no more F1 testing though.

What a disgrace. If F1 wants to be a true world championship, it needs a race in Africa somewhere...

How do you sell half a track?

*has strange visions of cars going halfway round, finding no track and toppling down cliff*

I thought the current circuit was already half a track (compared to the original...)

Nicholas, you are right in as much as half the land is up for sale. So far there are two interested parties, one who likes motor racing, the other who doesn't. Neither have come close to the asking price so let's keep our fingers crossed it goes to the guys who like motor racing huh!

Welkolm

There still is a decent track in SA without Kylami:

Welkolm - home of the Moto GP

I agree but the beauty of Kyalami is it is close to Johannesburg while Welkom is miles from anywhere and the infrastructure is bad too.

Welkom is c*ap, no doubt about it.

Anyone who watches the MotoGP would understand why I say that. No way on earth would they host a Grand Prix there.

And with part of Kyalami being sold off goes South Africas chance of once again hosting a race.

I'm not too sure Paul but South Africa's chances of hosting another GP now are slim. Not because of the circuit but because of the political situation and the currency, which has devalued by over 50% in the last year. Realistically it should have happened when Nelson Mandela was released. In fact they were promised a GP by Bernie Eccleslug who promptly renaged the following year. Sponsorship was in place (Vodacom) and all the necessary work had been undertaken by the track owners AA Kyalami. All they got for their troubles was an F1 test session. The only big teams to go were BAR and Williams, both sponsored at that time by BAT.

Yet another reason to hate Bernie!
