Jinxed...

Due to work, family and financial constraints, I don't get to marshal as much as I would like to any more. However this year, things are getting ridiculous. Of the six events I've signed up for:
3 have been cancelled by the organising clubs
My wife was ill for one and I had to look at the children
My car is crocked, meaning I can't get to tomorrows.

This means that I have only managed to marshal once this year. At Castle Combe on the last May bank holiday in the torrential rain!

This gives me a success rate of 16.67% so far this year. My challenge is this: Can you better my average and can you make any suggestions of how I can appease the marshalling Gods and actually go out and play later in the season!

Unfortnuly we cant do anything about clubs canning meetings.

Appeasing the marshalling gods though............could be trickey.

Wait till your wife gets better then take the family to every meeting going!!
That should keep the gods happy!

That line was priceless (in a comedy sense obviously).

On a more serious note though, keep the sense of humour and keep trying. Things will turn round and you'll get to more meets. (And you won't have to look at the kids )

Sunshine follows rain. I had a year like that which was followed by the best year ever.

Hmm...in marshalling terms, I'm having my best year ever...next year doesn't look too good, then!

And I've just realised I've double booked a family holiday on the next day I'm supposed to be marshalling. There's no hope for me!

Mine's 200% at the moment as I've only booked for 6, but have attended 12!

Due to my work patterns/locations this year, I've been leaving it until the last minute to phone up with my availability - although for Anglesey & Loton Park I can just turn up.

Go for the bigger meetings - theres less chance of them being cancelled

You're having some seriously bad luck

I've had to pull out of two days of the Britcar 24 hr and had to stop thinking about doing the Donington night race aswell due to getting a part time job

The problem with the bigger meetings is that I live in Cornwall, have a young family and simply cannot justify the time and expense needed to attend them. I'm therefore left with smaller meetings that are more at risk of being cancelled.

Yep. I know that things will improve, but it's annoying. Mind you, I'd only be complaning about the rain/wind/sun if I were marshalling. There's just no pleasing some people!!
