Warwick should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Did a few laps in the passenger seat of a Monaro (CV8?) at the local track, now this was an unmodified road car with a race driver and the car was a quite plainly a understeering pig.

This meant hard on the brakes, turn in and light it up to make it go around at any decent speed, the local Holden guys have told me that the four door versions are a much better platform to start with

Rigidity an issue with the longer doors and stretched roofline perhaps? I can't believe any modern Holden or Ford is really a "pig" but things go in degrees. It's hard to equate a heavy V8 powered car with a lighter one powered by less than a V8.

And when the people of Motor Magazine did just that.

The lighter turbo charged Falcon beat all the other V8's.

As for a comparison with a Charger!

Come on, all dirty non polution motor, no safety cell to speak of and no brakes.

Sounds real close doesn't it?

Ah yes but the other cars aren't ILLEGAL if you get a flat tyre and put the spare on........... Be careful Moff you CAN get fined and defected for running the space saver spare. Why you ask well a simple thing really. It is not on the tyre placard on the car.

I'm very keen on pick-ups, or, like you Aussies say, Utes. So, I ask: What is the hairiest FACTORY MADE ute from Australia, an equivalent of Chevy El Camino SS 454 LS6 or Ford Rancero GT 428 Cobra Jet?

they may not have the cubes of your utes, but a HQ One Tonner with a V8 makes for an interesting ride. With a tray (no weight over the rear wheels) and springs designed to carry a tonne it is oversteer city.

I wouldn't mind the last of Ford's AU T Series with a 5.6L stroked 302W and some BIG brakes.

But I was talking about muscle car, which is what this thread was about. That's muscle, not brains. If you want to talk about best "performance car" or "sports car" or "GT" then the answer is clearly "none of the above".

The thing is Alfadude that "Motor" call it the muscle car shoot out.

And the only non V8 won!

All blown 4 litres of it.

I admit to having had a go at a couple of V8's in controlled circumstances. A SS and a VY Clubsport. They were found wanting my friend.

colinbond, in NSW you can get defected for running different tread patterns front to rear. Though I'd be surprised if the police ever did it unless getting really really picky on someone who's annoying them.

GTV27 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
An XR6 Turbo ran at Morgan Park in the Sprint Series last weekend (as the owner's normal ride (a 7 litre Mustang) was having some minor piston maladies at the time).

It was running very well - seemed very balanced and looked after its tyres (running slicks) very well. Even the brakes seemed to stand up to the abuse well - I'd find room in the garage for one!

However, it was not as fast as most of the classic V8's - hell even a little old XU1 managed to see it off (although, I could claim that this was due to a skillful driver behind the wheel, but that would be immodest )

Same argument against the XU1 as for the Charger.

You are not comparing apples with apples.

I'd like to remind you of the Cobra, what an awesome car that was. Big 351, great paint job and plenty of nellies.
