Let's see, if I choose V8, I can have a Ferrari 360, or Maserati Coupe (including Trofeo), BMW M5, various TVR's - one or two others I think.... it's difficult to think how any of those cars could have been improved with a rotary.

Rotary. Smaller, weighs less, closer to the CoG. And you can get tons of power out of a ridiculously small displacement.

Wow that's pretty impressive.... I guess hearing the news all the Ferrari 288 GTO owners will be replacing their 400bhp twin-turbo V8 engines with rotaries.... not! Last edited by alfasud; 11 Aug 2003 at 13:19. |

I guess it has to be a V8, although Stacy Vickers would have good grounds to argue with that!

Have you ever heard a sound of air-cooled V8 of Tatra? There's some marvelous sound!

A friend of mine accidentally filled his rotary with diesel. It's a lot harder to clean than a V8, apparently.

well a rotary? really how many rotors? it makes a difference.
and current market Rotaries are twins, and are equal to a high strung 4 (like an S2000) or a V6. why compare it to a V8? doesn't seem quite right I would take a rotie over a 4 easy, maybe over a V6, but a flat 6 or a V8 has something over the rotary unless it is a 3 or 4 rotor, and a big turbo |

Mate when i said i took on a GTO AND WOOPED it i meant the HOLDEN GTO COUPE. I WISH I COULD BEAT A FERRARI(NEVER TRIED)
And my 2 rotor engine is more than capable of munchin up v8s the only advantage in having a 3 rotor is the torque. I have seen 2 rotor engines do 1000hp at the wheels. YES MY CAR HAS A T04E so its pretty big turbo. HEHE ROTARYS CAN TAKE MUCH MUCH MUCH BIGGERRRR FILL A ROTARY WITH DIESEL(DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY) |

KEEP IN MIND ROTARIES ARE MUCH CHEAPER THAN
YOUR FAST V8s and gota think in their time of context in which they were released. THE MOST RECENT RX8 is quite impressive in that it produces a great amount of power for its size. YES TRUE THAT IT ISNT CURRENTLY AS FAST AS THE V8s becaue mazada have decided to make someting that everybody will be and not just a few people. BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE PAST RX7s they were the fastest of their time THE NEW 1.5L ROTARY PROMISING BETWEEN 240KW-280KW WILL BE A V8 COMPETITOR I GURANTEE(CANT WAIT!!!!) |

rotaries are cool, but even at 250hp the Renesis motor has a low 100something Lbs/Ft of torque I wouldn't expect too much, a wonderful motor for sure, but i would want one more rotor for the torque.
These are awesome, but there is more than one way to skin a cat, and beafraid a V8 can outlast and most likely out drag a imilarly set up Rotary (try a turbo V8 to your turbo rotary-see what i mean...) |

A rotary any day.
I have had all models and I still own a 1969 R100 10a original. 40,000 miles and plastic on the doors I got it from an old lady friend of my parents. Awaiting our Yellow RX8 as we unfortunately don't need a baby sit anymore. |

being that the rotary has had so much less development done so far, I would take a V8 but gimmee a couple years of the new RX-8 and hopefully more recognition of the rotary and we'll be seeing nasty fast rotaries, not to mention an 8 rotor motor would be scary
