I guess the stubborn minded/semi old fashioned ones among us (I'm proudly one of them!!!) still think a saloon looks better. The rear wings look more balanced on a saloon than a hatchback!!

I love the look of it - hope the new Sharambralaxy looks like a huge Altea!!

As for what sells compared to what's racing... anyone want to see another of these???

Besides the Volvo, there were a pair of Independent built/run Subaru Impreza wagons built to ST rules that raced in the JTCC. Of course, it was basically a backmarker.

I know a pair of Suzuki Balenos raced in the Dutch series?

Should anyone oppose, if there was a hatch like THIS or THIS on the WTCC grid, say next season?

Is that an E46 hatchback? There's already a pair of MB hatchbacks racing in the US World Challenge touring car division. If that means another several cars on the grid, I guess I have to say yes.

If it's a choice between a saloon or hatchback version, no, I would require the saloon!

I would oppose to them.

SEAT, as mentioned, have designed all their cars like hatchbacks, I'd take dim view of Mercedes or BMW if they entered those in the WTCC when they have a perfectly good saloon to race.

You see more blue moons round here than you do Cordobas! Perhaps their more popular on the continent.

Are the WTCC drivers solely charged with the development ? Or is Jason Plato going to be involved at all?

Today's Autosport reports SEAT Sport are seeking the funds to add another driver to their team in 2006 - Plato is one of the contenders as well as the other national SEAT drivers.

SEAT Sport UK have Plato signed till the end of 2007 but have said that if the marketing reasons were right to send him to WTCC they would.

SEAT UK have yet to commit to the BTCC next year, is this a signal they are diverting attention to the WTCC ?

Perhaps, i think SEAT should push hard for next year WTCC, why? Alfa and BMW will have new cars for 2006 when SEAT debut is scheduled for Oschersleben... this year. It will be a good advantage for SEAt.

Plato like fourth driver in WTCC? hmm, sounds good to me.

Because of its shape the car does not like long straight. The aerodynamics need to be improved to get more top speed.

I hope the WTCC doesn't become a series for these 5dr hatchbacks. I thought the WTCC had to be saloons or just cars with 4 doors? Wasn't Ford supposed to be switching to a saloon Focus in the next year or two?

Here you have FIA regulations. It isn´t necessary to be a saloon car, like you say just 4 doors requiered.

I heard Focus would have its saloon Focus already this year.

Oh, I hate those new Seats, how can a man responsible of Alfa 156, Walter De Silva, make something that ugly.

I wonder if that then
If that's the case, then the rumor that the WTCC or FIA turned down Volvo's proposal of racing a V50 wagon can't be true? It would be interesting to see one race.

Was that delayed? I recall reading how their current WTCC Focus hatchback was partially based on their TC2000 Focus saloon entry. I wonder will the similiarity increased with the new saloon?

The 4 door Ford Focus isn't due until later in the year - Oschersleben I think I read.

As for the SEAT - gorgeous!

I'm going to buck the trend here - I think it looks fantastic.

Perhaps the most inspired hatch design since the Alfa 147. And as a race car it looks fabulous - certainly a lot more interesting than the variations of the same old Alfa and BMW shapes we have seen for years and years.

You are not the only one mac, I too think it looks brilliant

Hopefully the new rear end will give Seat the last bit it needs in order to be challenging for wins in each race
