Tony Bell to race in first two rounds of European Rallycross Championship
Great news folks, Tony Bell plans to race in the first two rounds of the 2003 European Rallycross championship in Portugal and France driving his Toyota Corolla. he will then review plans but lets hope he chooses europe over the British championship for the rest of the year, which will give us Brits something to cheer about!!!
Lets hope the rest follow suit and Tony will be the first of may to venture back across to compete at the highest level. I hope he does well and have full respect for him as some british drivers egos are to big to go and race with the big boys! |

yeap sure thing!!
The European championship excitement builds!! Only 4 weeks to go until the season kicks off in Portugal. Division 1 is going to be superb! Lets hope gollop decides to do some more rounds than the 2 rounds he plans, so we can have a good chance of a win this year! Last edited by Peter S; 16 Apr 2003 at 18:16. |

Judging by yesterdays performance - he's got his work cut out to keep up with the big boys.

Totally agree Hog, Tony Bell was well off the pace (maybe due to running the euro spec restrictor?). The top modifieds were on about the same pace and he was one of the slowest supercars (although he did actually make it to the end of the day).

Didn't it sort of go bang as he went through the chicane on the last lap of the Superfinal? I noticed lots of black smoke.

If you look at his times from the heats he wasnt that far behind. He hasnt raced for 6 months so the event was just being used as a shakedown.
The first two heats was a struggle by the looks of it for him, but in the third he was only 7 seconds behind. Considering he is running to FIA regs, with a car that is over 100kg heavier, with the 45mm restrictor as well as cut tyres, as required in europe, this wasnt a bad effort. His fastest time in the heats was 7 seconds quicker than the modified. And Lydden is a very quick track so the Fia regs would show up more there than anywhere. |
