What's the deal with gloves?

I know this is relatively monor compared to todays events, however:

Why are all the drivers rolling up their gloves? I saw Webber do it at Monaco (never seen it before) and noy almost all of them are doing it!

or are they just keeping their wrists cool?

Yeah I've noticed that recently - nothing like second degree burns to the wrists is there. Complete idiots in my opinion, FIA should be handing out big fines. Or bans.

Think they might want to sort out another issue before persuing drivers for potentially scorched wrists.

Bans?....isnt it a drivers problem if they get burnt if they want to roll up their gloves? Anyway how can they police it with the cars that dont always run on board cameras?

Are they actually burning themselves by doing so? Ow
Sounds like someone should come up with a short hose that peeks out of the cockpit and funnels into the suit somehow-I know that would be appreciated by many open-wheel drivers.
Off to the patent office

Quite often see drivers in the WRC with their sleeves rolled up too...

Are gloves acutally mandatory in F1 etc? Not sure they are under MSAUK regs.

Didnt rally drivers race in just a fireproof t-shirt on some of the hot rallys?? I'm sure i've seen Colin Mcrae among with other drivers do this.
In F1, i dont see the problem with it, the driver knows they are putting themselves at risk of injury, so i say let them do what they like (to a certain degree)

And those that only wear the ankle length nomex socks should be castrated and then paraded naked on the grid, that'll teach em!

For those of you wondering why its perhaps not necessary to wear gloves or the correct level of fireproofing heres a picture of Jim Hurtubise's hands after his firey 1964 accident at Milwaukee. He had 40% of his body burned and the Doctors reset his hands afterwards so that he could grip a steering wheel. (Warning, not that bad a pic but a little gnarly!) http://home.att.net/~raceshooter/ima...o/herkhand.jpg

I personally wear fireproof socks, boots, gloves and a balaclava where my body isnt protected by my three layers kart overalls when in my Rotax-max. Overkill you might think, and I'm a bit of a pussy - but these things still have enough fuel on board to start a fire if the worse came to the worse and I want to be able to extricate myself or others without too much danger if necessary.

I think he should be banned for the rest of the season, or shot dead.
