Interesting.. as ever... stories out of the Gold Coast powder room most recently seem to have placed Mr McLaughlin Sr in the market for the purchase of a REC for 2013...

Now this was much rumoured a couple of years ago, indeed it was suggested that the McLaughlin family was a major shareholder in SBR... especially when former family business MFL supplied transport & equipment to that team.. all of which seems to have never have been the case... wishful thinking perhaps?

Either way, with 3 cars and 3 pilots on long terms deals, presumably there is no spot in the main game for SBR in its current guise...

Or is there?

With an allegedly fresh REC in tow, and perhaps an operating budget contribution from current backer Fujitsu, that this pilot may land at SBR in a 4th Ford..

...except the powderettes' story sees a different, yet somehow obvious landing place.

The story goes that with the PMM-owned #91 REC reverting to the House of Morris next year, that a young bloke with a REC in tow, and a solid year in the development series behind him, may just maintain Tekno as a 2 car operation!

Presuming any of this actually happened

What's this fresh REC you speak of?

Someone elses, or are V8SC bumping the grids up to 30 cars, or thereabouts?

Seems the clever thing to do, given all the supposed interest in various parties wanting to either get involved, or in some cases stay involved.

Could the JoBri/Britek REC leave the good ol' boys from Albury and head up north to SBR?

An existing REC is how the story goes. The V8SA group ruled a line in the sand that 28 RECs was the number for the future.. whether Archer Capital agrees with that concept going forward might be interesting

The challenge is likely the ownership structure of that REC.

The story goes that the BJ in BJR is the 'Jo' in 'JoBri' at a percentage spoken of between 20% and 50% of that REC-holding entity.

Meantime, the 3rd car at BJR is a customer one, soaking up older equipment and younger personnel, and would more than likely contribute to the operating profit of that team, for use in the primary 'BJR' cars.

The 'BJ' in BJR was quoted somewhere as saying his team shall source 4x Cotf chassis for 2013, so it suggests perhaps that they shall stay a 3 car squad.

We shall see

I think that car #21 has been a paying driver an open secret since Brighty moved to the team in 2010. Kinda sounds good on paper to a degree, a new driver gets to drive in the main game learning from some very skilled drivers (2010/2011 for Reindler was Bright, Jason Richards, Andrew Jones and Jason Bargwanna for example) and their money goes to BJR setting up the team's infrastructure and the such so they can be a bit more competitive.

In terms of the 4x COTF chassis, could also indicate two cars with two spares.

BJR posess something like 5 Walkinshaw chassis, don't they? Perhaps they are gambling on a couple of these to shift at season's end, in order to pay for the supposed 4 COTF chassis.

Also, the talk of the McLaughlans getting a REC, and with the blessings and pennies from Fujitsu may add more fuel to the fire of the concept that Mr Rogers may pack it in. When do Mr Carusso's, and Fujitsu's contracts expire with GRM?

Bare in mind, that number only came about to, as the story goes, ensure the quality of the field. The amount of paying drivers in the field at present is still very much the same as it was 2, 3 and 4 years ago. Has the depth of talent and engineering prowess across field changed that much?

I think a lot of the teams might do this to avoid the huge glut of machinery that would otherwise hit the market....

At most BJR will sell four. They'll keep one and convert it back to 2010 specs and Team BOC colours as a tribute to Jason Richards.

Good question, as we know various teams are getting their base chassis from PACE?

So... where to for Mr Murphy in 2013? The SpeedCafe article Here gives a few clues...

It gives the impression that Mr Murphy is waiting for someone to give him an offer for 2013... whereas the reality is likely somewhat different...

It would not be a surprise if this pilot ends up at another Holden team.. and not WP, which for all intents and purposes appears full... 888 is full too, even if they could use a budget tickle... Tekno is a minnow who likely could also use the budget tickle...

Maybe the question comes around whether Wilson Security continues its team hopping history, and departs... opens up a brand new WP-inspired BJR-fettled VE..

You might assume that any Holden support that comes along with Mr Murphy would be a boon to BJR's Travelling Alburies. Mr Richards was formerly an anointed Holden child... Mr Murphy is too...

Could work out good all round... well some rounds...

one would argue that BJR have done a better job with the WR equipment then WR themselves.

CotF Timing Extension?

From the article, it was suggested that a short time REC holder was the person apparently wanting a delay in phasing in the new CotF as there is apparently an issue with resale values of current equipment when the market gets flooded at season's end.

But that's not the point. One of the outcomes of the sale of the holding to Archer Capital last year was that funds became unlocked to help the teams to tool up for season 2013 and beyond in the CotF world.

Now if the team owner in question, and the article does not name them, chose to bank their portion of the buyback income, and not use it towards 2013 equipment... then is it the fault of the CotF, or of that particular teamowner.

There are buyers in the market for a number of cars, indeed some teams have already taken deposits on equipment that ran in Darwin today, while the likes of GRM have been advertising in AA for just such a thing to happen.

The prices mentioned are 'cheap' in the sense that a brand new chassis would cost possibly twice the value (or more) of the selling price... but significantly better than zero, which is what a teamowner might get if he delusionally believes the chassis he currently runs is worth its original full freight purchase price.

A good car from a good team will always find a buyer. An average car from an average team will always struggle to find a home. And some average teams have been trying to unload cars for months (years?) at some very full pricing, and wondering why they arent flying out of the workshop.

Surely Mr Dumbrell's acquisition of the ex PMM Triple 8 hardware was a good short-term investment. Perhaps he'll retain it for another attempt at the DVS, with another rent-a-racer at the helm, and palm off the WR-inspired rig. This of course, hinges on whether the LDM crew can keep it within the confines of the workshop when not racing

Perhaps Mr Dumbrell tore up his Archer Capital bonus purchasing said T8 equipment, when he could have run the clock out, so to speak, with the WR-built mount, updated somewhat, of course.
