Alonso is a fantastic driver, no doubt, but whilst Button is normally *just* great, he can sometimes perform miracles. If he had a frontrunning McLaren in the past 2 seasons than I'm fairly sure that both him and Perez wouldn't be under threat for their 2015 race seats.

It'll be interesting to see what Alonso can do with them next year, but the switch to Honda might make it hard to compare to the last few seasons. Button and Alonso in the same team would be interesting. However I feel like it would be a bit of a repeat of 2012 with Hamilton vs Button. McLaren really shouldn't be so far off with that Mercedes - how in the hell did Williams come from the slowest non-Marussa/Caterham team to second best in 1 xmas. |

And how did McLaren go from being the fastest car to being the 5th or 6th fastest car over Christmas 2012?

Magnussen
He had a gearbox penalty so came from 11th to 6th on the first lap, then gained one more place and maintained station behind Button for the duration. Button had a 4th fastest lap but Magnussen's fastest lap was 14th fastest so he drove consistently well to come home behind Button but ahead of Alonso whose fastest lap was almost 9/10ths (0.897) faster than Magnussens. |
