I wonder if Newgsrden's tyres are going off. Hinchliffe now has an 8 second lead.

2nd FCY, as Carpenter loses it and Sato hits Carpenter's front wing.

I didn't think there was enough time to pit, with so few laps left.

Congrats to Hinchcliffe, his first oval win since Iowa 2013. Congrats to Pigot on his debut podium.

Was this at least a decent race? So far the weekend has been a sh1tshow of races, Daytona last night was stupid and a waste of time, Silverstone was a farce and pointless for 7 if the teams to even show up and Mosport has been a joke so far watching it on FS1. Wasted weekend with lots of racing action.

It was least favorite race this weekend, but I really enjoyed the British GP, so don't listen to me.

I turned it off after the bs penalty so I didn't see the ending, I couldn't take the blatant bias that everything against LH was intentional. You would have thought he went out to take out the MB instead of just being over aggressive. Beginning to not be able to watch whatever that junk coverage is they feed us here in the US. I just miss Matchett and Hobbes.

But ovals other than Indy should ALWAYS been under the lights so I had actually forgotten the race was on today so I was moving furniture instead

I thought it was a good race, much better than the British GP, though the last 10 laps of the British GP were good but it was the last 10 laps. I thought Iowa had pretty much what you could wish for in a short oval race. Newgarden took it on the chin and wasn't all pouty and moody like Hamilton.

I thought the GP was great! But that is another thread...

Really impressed with the lack of cautions today which produced some great racing. I have no idea what Newgarden and Wickens were thinking by pitting with four laps left. Staying out was clearly the right strategy. Haven't heard from my dad yet to hear what the track side impression was.

Result:

Great to see some of the smaller teams in the top 6 and taking all three podium spots. However, that was not the result Newgarden and Penske were hoping for. Why they elected to pit with only 4 laps left, really beggars belief? That was 40 points thrown away.

Not the best race either for Andretti Autosport and one I think they would rather forget. Alexander Rossi was the best finisher with 10th place. Good to see only two cautions.

I talked to my dad to get his impressions of the race from trackside. He said it was very difficult to follow all the action. You can see the whole track, so it was pretty distracting with all the passes going on, and he said it was hard to follow who was being lapped, or passed for position. I think he said he felt like a cat watching a ping pong match.

Also said the indy lights race was surprisingly enjoyable for having less than 10 cars.

I've watched 3 Indy lights races and they could have the top 4 race alone and it would be the most compelling racing this year. Those guys are at it hammer and tongs without any quarter asked or granted. The race at Indy was insane and I sat in the car to watch the ending instead of getting to an inspection. You could watch guys set each other up for passes, the driver getting passed yield as they should and try to earn their way back around. It should be down to all open wheel series drivers as the way to race.

The scoring panels would have helped...

That is a good point, as long as they are visible from the grandstand.
