LOL Ford teams have been told in no uncertain terms. Dont moan about the Camaro or we will give it more downforce.

Ford was complaining the straight line speed wasn't equal, downforce = drag.

Apparently a change to the aero balance of the Camaro, not more total, and apparently out of the change Ford are very happy.

V8 Sleuth understands a change has been agreed upon following Temora. That is supposedly a rebalancing of the Camaro's aero package, shifting downforce from rear to front.

What will they do if all the results favour one brand over the other, is there a plan going forward in the event of this?

Same as always I imagine - results themselves usually don't trigger changes but technical parity issues do. So, if differences in results from one make of car to another are attributed to technical parity variances, then changes may well be made.

Hmm...

Quote:
While Ford's initial campaign was to have the Mustang's rear wing altered, Supercars has instead decided to achieve improved balance by tweaking the front end of the Camaro.

The change is an addition to a leading edge of the front bar, which curves upwards to the wheel arch, which is designed to push the aero balance further to the front of the car.

Sources are claiming that the overall downforce numbers won't change, despite there being no changes to the rear of the Camaro.

As for the reasoning behind targeting the Camaro, it's understood that more minimal changes were preferred this close to the opening round of the season.

By changing the Camaro, material can be mounted to the existing Camaro front bar with adhesive, rather than a more extensive rear wing re-design on the Mustang.

Another bone of contention from Ford and its teams has been the performance of the 5.4-litre V8 engine compared to the 5.7-litre Chevy unit.

It appears there is no clear resolution to that heading into Newcastle this weekend.
https://www.motorsport.com/v8superca...tang/10440851/

Hopefully they get the technical parity right! It's a shame there isn't a more robust and indisputable process for determining this.

Let’s see how they all go on Friday!

I notice each team seems to be out & about hitting g up their local Newcastle promotional opportunity. Some brought their cars, others just brought their teams

Let’s see how mixed up the grid will be.. and the challenges in racing.

It’s nearly GO time.

Let’s GO!!

No, theoretically at the beginning at least the differences between teams should be smaller and even mid-pack teams should have a chance of great results, that's what tends to happen with a new ruleset in place. But honestly saying, I won't be at all surprised if SVG and 888 dominate this season as brutally as in last two years.

Should be possible to knock those off, thus improving downforce (thinking Grp B rally cars and parts that were heavy that fell off on the first stage)!

May well be possible to knock them off, but that will reduce downforce at the front, but only by 5 kilos or something, it's very slight.

What a load of crap. Rushbrook obviously saw a difference and wasn't happy. Supercars hasn't been transparent about anything regarding VCAT testing. Just surprise aero changes that were made.

Actually Supercars IS very transparent with the process and is not trying to hide anything - full information is provided to the teams, other teams can attend VCAT testing and observe - total transparency.

There has long been a view that being one of the teams in the game gives access to a lot of exclusive information and VCAT test results are part of that.

Burgess does not inspire confidence in fans anyhow!

https://www.v8sleuth.com.au/the-gods...-parity-truce/

Gee: what would produce more repeatable results? Maybe a climate-controlled wind tunnel?

Hopefully the teams are happy but it doesn't really mesh with how the Mustangs seem to be sliding around more, pending whether they perform more consistently in the race.

Personally I think it would be a good idea to make up the raised rear wing brackets for the Mustang anyway, and trial them on some of the Mustangs during Albert Park free practice to get back-to-back data comparison with other Mustangs running the lower mounts. It might still be within the downforce tolerances that Supercars' accept (apparently 2-3% x 170kg) and give similar laptimes, but give the Mustangs a nicer balance and tyre life more comparable to the Camaros?

I was hoping that Gen 3 would provide a genuine race between the two makes of vehicle, early days yet but I've got my doubts that this will happen.

The category needs success ballast to provide some entertainment.

Maybe you should ask the Mercedes-Benz F1 team about wind tunnel vs. real world and whether the results are the same.

Look, I do hear you re wind tunnels but there ARE a few problems with considering a wind tunnel to be a good method for Supercars:
  1. There are no full-size wind tunnels in Australia with rolling road bases.
  2. Because of item 1, cars (& the attending crews, plus observers) would need to be flown overseas somewhere - cost comes into play.
  3. Wind tunnels often do not correlate to what happens in the real world - over the eyars, many teams in many categories have fitted a magic part that shone in the wind tunnel but simply didn't work as expected in the real world.
  4. F1 teams spend vast amounts of time and money to get their tunnels "correlated" as close as they can to real world outcomes - sometimes building whole new tunnels to get there - & they're only working on one car and using scale models at that.
  5. The info sourced out of a wind tunnel can be replicated more effectively in real world situations by good engineers who allow for a range of factors to be covered - this is what Supercars has been doing for over 20 years - & the racing has been pretty good and pretty close for most of that time.
