Hmm, it looks like the WTCC-cars will resemble WRC-cars very much. A good thing in terms of development-rewards for manufacturers. But I'm afraid that those cars will less and less resemble real cars.

The addition of a turbo would not effect the resemblence of the cars from the road going ones. Unless of course the rules on aero mods were also to change.

More and more manufacturers put small turbo engines in their cars. Besides that the rally version of S2000 will switch to turbo engines too. So not really a surprise.

This really is a great idea, good to see someone with sense in the FIA. It should make the cars more equal, and mean we're not going to end up wit a deisel championship.

In the article it did mention manufactorers using smaller engins. Could this mean we have a 1.4l or 1.6l series?

In rally S2000 they will use 2L turbo engines. But these cars are AWD and have more power than 280 bhp. I can imagine they will user 1.6L turbo engines for the touring cars.

Why o' why can't thay just freeze regulations? They should have some form of 'concorde agreement' as in F1 where by for a set period of time the regulations stay the same (or very close).

Change only means added cost (development for manufacturers, independants buying and selling cars...no, no , no!)

Not long after BTCC etc. adport S2000 then things change again....



Will it be equal ummm....only more scope for argument.

Can't blame there proactiveness of looking at the markets but giving us all a rest!

You can't freeze regulations because you can't freeze technology. Its stupid to stay with old technology when newer more effecient technology is available. Just look at NASCAR: technology is frozen there, so the budgets just move to optimizing that existing technology. They use a old-school rear-axle to limit costs, but then the budget just moves to million dollar alignment rigs to align the axle on the millimeter to minimize resistance.

Cost limitation in motorsport is an illusion.

If the S2000 cars can race alongside teh new ones, that will mean the indy teams'll be happy. It'll be like this years BTCC with the S2000 and BTC cars, a BTC cars never gonna win the series, but run well could get some points, and experiance for new teams, i.e. Eurotech and Motorbase.

As for the cost, if BMW pay Schnitzer £X, Schnitzer will spend £X on their cars. They're not going to turn round and say, "actually, a bit less than that'll do thanks". The only way to cut costs would be to have a apending cap, which is a rediculous idea.

You mean the agreement that they have tried to renegotiate for several years now, but where all sides just cant reach to a conclusion meaning a new up to date agreement keeps on not happening. Meanwhile, private teams are dying out and the grid is thinning out at a steady pace. We will be happy to have even 18 F1 cars on the grid next year. Im betting on only 16.

So, lets not try to implement something in WTCC that is already known to be a bad idea.
