Googling for "7/16 bsf wheelnut" turned up this link http://www.lbcarco.com/mgt/steering-suspension.htm with implies that MG TC/TD/TF 1500 used them at some point in the suspension. Might be worth contacting Vintage Motors.
Are they plain nuts, tapered nuts, spherical seated nuts? The more info the better. |

I'm no engineer, so please excuse my rather crude description, but the nuts are chamfered or tapered on their inner face like the majority of 1950's road cars.
I will now 'google' Vintage Motors, I bet there are lots of businesses with that title! |

I personally would adapt and fit some later wheel studs and nuts as "if" they are original the studs would be a bit weak by now. I doubt if the eligibility scrut would throw you out

Or if the Studs are in good condition, your local friendly machine shop should be able to make some at very little cost ,using some Hex Bar of suitable grade of course.

My mistake, it turns out that company I found was in the States, which might not be much help.
Having some made (or converting the studs to a modern equivalent) is more likely the best bet as suggested above. |

Try http://www.themontrosegroup.com/threads.asp Your order may be a bit small for them but they may well have dealers.

When I needed bolts for my Fiat, I just went to a local engineering firm and they machined them for me from hex bar, and even powder coated them for me as well. Granted you won't be able to use the same firm, but if you took the wheel nut down to a firm that has a CNC lathe, they will be able to make copies of it for you. Should be a good price as well, I paid about $A10 per unit.

You don't know Momus like I do, he can tell you the angle change between standard metric and JIS, leave alone something as basic as BSF!

BSF - But Seriously Folks
Quote:
Around 1960 (give or take), BMC and most of the UK car industry went to using UNF and UNC. Last car I know of that had (some) BSF threads, was the last Morris Minor (UK built with 1098 motor) - they were holding the top suspension/shock units onto the body. Don't get me started on Whitworth.....Formula for spanner size was (1-3/4 x bolt dia), BS was (1-3/4 x bolt dia) - 1/16", no wonder the spanners and bolt heads were all weird sizes! Some Lucas electrical bits have BSF (British Standard Fine - Whitworth equivalent of UNF) or BA (British Association) threads. |

Strewth! No, you not ristenin' - he want 7/16" BSF. Not UNF.
As for Whitworth - I have found a lot of cheap Chinese engines on things have whitworth threads, and metric heads on their bolts!! Fabulous! That's where our old tooling went - after we sent it to Australia with the convicts, they sold it to the Chinese! Ingenuity! Can't wait to see the new MG's from China with Whitworth wheel bolts... Rob. |
