Sprint Nextel merger

Just curious as to what implications this might have on Nascar. So far all I see is a change of name to Sprint Nextel Cup, or will they just leave that alone. Long term I hope they stay. Nothing like changing the name of the champinship every year after it`s been the same after 30 years.

I would expect for Sprint / Nextel to eventually leave Nascar sometime after the merger takes effect. It won't happen immediately but sometime over the next 5 years or so. Sprint will be the domineering force between the 2 companies and they aren't a big fan of Nascar.

I think it was a '09 or'10 time frame. Sprint may be along for the ride now. But afterwards?

There are many ways to get out of a contract. All they have to do is stop doing full promotion of Nascar and Nascar will start looking for another sponsor in short order. I don't expect them to bail out immediately, however, I really think that Nextel's association with Nascar is on the way out.

I expect the series sponsor will change when the current contract expires.
