I agree it's time for Bernie to go. But anyone who remembers the Indycar split in the 90s, should know why we should avoid a split series at all costs.

The Nurburgring has made Bernie a new offer they are awaiting a reply. Bernie can take all the profits and organise the GP!

I seem to remember him doing such things in the dim and distant past.

That's pretty much what he does with those Gulf State GPs, isn't it and isn't Qatar coming online next year?

I thought he got considerably more than 20million from those to host races. That is probably why he likes them so much.

I think that both Bahrain and Abu Dhabi pay extremely high sanctioning fees to FOM for the privilege of being allowed to run the respective races, and they are oft used as the sledgehammer to open the nuts in discussions with other countries/circuits when fees are being negotiated or re-negotiated.

Whilst mentioning Bahrain, at least one article was written in the last couple of months where Mr Ecclestone offered the opinion that Qatar was unlikely to hold a Grand Prix as he had agreed with Bahrain that there would be no further venues in the Gulf area, although they did allow Abu Dhabi to come on board. At the time of the article/s, Bahrain were putting their foot down, although I am of the opinion that BE would not be too upset to see the back of Bahrain if it was replaced by at least Qatar.

Bit of a stretch to put this here, but apparently bbc are reporting that FOM have asked for compensation from the Korean Grand Prix for not holding a race that Bernie put on the calendar without telling them!!! If this is true it is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard, and i've heard a lot of stupid things.

Admittedly it's under their f1 gossip column. The actual site itself I've never heard of but you'd hope bbc would look into it first before putting a link to it on their website

According to this article, it looks like a GP at Qatar will go ahead, along side existing GPs at Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

There could be a Korean GP in 2016 with the organisers looking for a new contract.

Hooray, another lifeless artificial GP with more drivers than spectators

But the circuit is good. Maybe if they could transport it to Germany...

I honestly don't see the point in having these GPs like S. Korea. They do nothing to promote the sport and don't lead to grass roots motorsport development in the country that's hosting them and only serve to line Bernie's pocket.

I think the only people who disagree are those making £££ from the events. Which is about 6 people in a much larger world.

No, that is part of the money that cascades down to the teams. This is basically why the teams, although appearing to show discontent at the announcements, always accept the increase in the number of events. It was not that long ago that their were only 16 GPs per annum, and slowly that has crept up to 20, and there was talk of there being 21 either this year or next.

Who says that money doesn't talk?

There hasn't been a 16 race season since the late '90s, though 2003 was the exception, as Spa went off the calendar.

The reason for expanding to 20 and Bernie's been wanting 21 races but he still keeps missing, is new venues pay him that extortionate sanctioning fee. Venues like Silverstone, Spa and Monza pay less because of their historical status.

At my stage of life, 15 years ago is almost like yesterday!

However, my point was that the teams also benefit financially from extra races as some of the proceeds from sanctioning fees are eventually paid to them.

Money "invested" in F1 does not seem to be a concern to everyone, mainly Mercedes in Germany. What global financial crisis?

Still no sign of a German GP.
Mercedes are offering help but I don't think they are going to pay all $$$$$$$$ that Bernie wants for a race to go ahead.
If there is no German GP this year I wonder who is it going to reflect worst on Bernie or the organisers for not coming up with enough money.

The other factor that will come into play soon is the time needed to organise the race, sell tickets etc.
