The one I hate is when your wife walks up and says ' Checked to see if it has any petrol'.

Back in the 70’s I was racing in F4. Lots of old school chums would come along . I was not having a good day at Silverstone . Jumped the start and was in the lead only to be passed by half the field in the race . Down in the dumps and old school chum said “ are you getting full throttle “ . Needless to say I told him to shove off!!!!! Since that day I have always listened to advice sometimes painful .

Hard for me to spot the strike in fact. Soon in the morning, have to walk my English dogs coming from Yorkshire. No strike for Yorkie-weewee. I'm living in a flat and eventually a main pipe collapsed. No strike for the water. Had an appointment in a bistrot ran by an Arab. No strike for this one. Appointment with a Portuguese plumber in the bistrot. No strike for the Portuguese. After a nice cuppa we had to wait a while because the concierge was late, as on usual. Guess where this lazy stupid person comes from?

I remember when the customs were on strike here many years ago .
Their version of a strike was to stop every vehicle coming off the ferries , [ just to talk ]. So they were doing actually more work than normal , but is was the travellers who got the effects of it with huge queues at all of the ports . |

Tel, let me explain in french words please. This is called "grève du zèle". The funny side is that custom officers are often described as people who dont do sh** on their spot. Buuuut, when they are on strike, they start working as should! See what I mean? C'est le bordel Ã* la française. If talking about SNCF, railways operator, or air France, when arriving at any desk, any time, any station/ airport asking a simple question its very hard to spot who is on strike who is not…*At least at first glance!!!

When they are on strike , they actually do a lot more work to make everyone know that they have something to complain about . Quite a few years ago I got stopped by the Duane at the first Autoroute tolls into France from Spain . They asked if they could put their drug sniffing dog in the back of my wagon . While he was sniffing around in the back , the customs officer explained that he was an "English " dog , & was very good . I thought at the time that he saved them from having to do any work , which was why they were so pleased with him |

I se the Round the World Spitfire is back. Think it landed at Goodwood.
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknew...cid=spartandhp Maybe it didn't have a V12 RR engine though..... Quote- "A team of engineers in Chichester spent two years restoring the original JET to its former glory, focusing on repairing rather than replacing parts." |

Yes absolutely right. All the difference between "usual" and "normal" resides in this kind of crazy example. Moons ago, back from Monza or Enna Pergusa with a severely damaged 504 Wagon I was stopped at Swiss border. They dont like French "poubelles" on their roads, you know… Officer asks: Nothing to declare? I say only a joint of pork… Officer: Raw or cooked? Me: well done, sir… Then I went with a large smile but free!!!

But one time , somewhere in the middle of France , stopped by Duane at tolls who checked what I was carrying . He reached into a crate & pulled out a bag of white crystals . That is when your heart rate goes up a bit , but luckily he seemed to know what Silica Gel was so no problem . |

Agreed, "sometimes" going through Swiss borders makes you sweat… When young, I tested many different routes but always with the same Amazon fitted with a large Peco marmitta…*They dont like noise over there!

As it’s a drag racing car I wonder if the record is recognised, as I’m assuming it would be the terminal speed at the end of a run, not an average speed measured over a set distance....? Talking of records, Autocar have a road test of the JCB / Guy Martin ‘World’s Fastest Tractor’ next week in their Xmas edition..... |
