M. Schumacher & Juan Montoya will start the Japanese G.P. on the front row, Schumacher beat Montoya by seven tenths of a second. The surprise packets were the Bennettons with Fisichella sixth & Button ninth while Alesi will start his last Grand Prix from p11.

Did anyone notice that Fernando qualified ahead of the two Asiatechs? Guess which team is being sold down the river next year. Maybe Minardi should stick with the antique Fondmetal lumps for next year - couldn't do any worse.

Considering this is JPM's first ever F1 visit to Suzuka, and how much Suzuka is a driver's circuit of skills and precision as well as car performance, he did extremely well. Seems to be quicker in the 3rd section by a mile, though lost out chunks of time in the first... promising.
But woah...Michael... he showed he could do what all other great drivers could do... the ability to pull out the extra second in qualifyings when required. His 3 attempts are all a beauty to watch, precise and smooth. Aggressive and controlled. Woah... We have a race on our hands tomorrow, if JPM just pumps in a couple more tenths...LOL! |

Congrats to the TGF but IMO the real winner today was Juan!
Once again Rock / sorry Ralf has been beaten by his team mate and I'm sure he is sucking lemmons as we speak What a fine first performance today. And as for Bennetton, congrats also, hopefully they will carry on with this new form for next season. |

Great showing from both JPM and TGF, particularly JPM as it's his first visit to the circuit, but for TGF to be 7 tenths ahead of everyone is simply astounding. Wonder what Ralf is thinking? He seemed fairly despondent in the press conference, almost defeatist when asked what are his prospects. Still not used to seeing JPM's exhausts...yet. Get used to the view Ralfy boy. You'll be seeing them all the time next year. |

I think Ralf will get used to seeing the rear of Montoya's car next year. The fact that JPM can go so quick on his Suzuka debut is indicative of his talent.

Can anyone seriously doubt that all that Ralf and JPM will be seeing next year is the back of TGF's car?? What a performance!

Formula Juan has definitely taken the full control of the team. He is the only hope Williams gets the work done next season. First time in this track and look what he did. Even if some people were saying that he would only beat little bro in the easiest tracks. Truth is that he is beating him in all kind of circuits, which was not the case at the beginning of the season. Experience is something you gain with time and that is what explains why Formula Juan is able to beat little bro fair and square. Hope he gets the Reliable Williams for the raceā¦LOL
Ferrari has an enormous advantage. That car can go fast in any kind of circuits. It will be tough to beat next year, specially if Schumacher dedicates his time to drive his car instead of fighting for his little bro. |

BB, we can argue all you want about JPM, but surely even you must see that he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the WDC as long as Michael is racing.

That lap by Schumacher was astounding. I saw it on tape and watched it three times.
There is no doubt that he is absolutely the best out there right now and that he has a car to match his skills. JPM was formidible given that this was his first visit to Suzuka. Good job by Fisi and it only has to frustrate him that after all the work he put into the Benetton this year, that he's going to Jordan and Trulli reaps the fruits of his efforts at Renault next season. |
