I never met him but he always came across as a very nice bloke. Really makes you think, he was only 3 years older then me! Not fair, condolences to his family.
Do you think heaven has a rally track? |

Like some of those on a similar thread started in the Rally forum, and here (they will be merged at some stage), I thought Richard was on the road to recovery. This news is a bitter blow and terribly sad. The second sporting hero we've lost in the last few hours. Condolences to all Richard's family and friends.
Richard, RIP |

I've only just read the news on Autosport this morning and to be honest i'm gutted! Sorry to say but it makes me so angry that George Best will be all over the news for the next week when he had a second chance at life and threw it away, when there are gents like Richard Burns who didn't even have a chance first time around.

Shocking news, and just very very sad. I trust the press will pay due respect to Richard amidst the feeding frenzy of Bests passing.
A brave fight by Richard, and one we all hoped and felt he would win. Sadly not. My condolences to his family. RIP Richard |

I can only echo the messages here. A top guy who was one of the real down to earth drivers, a pleasure to watch whether on the small screen or live. A true motorsport entertainer. Thoughts are with him and his family at this terrible time.

One of the UK's best drivers gone but not forgotten
Though I am not a true Rally fan, I thought of Richard Burns as my favourite Rally Driver. And recovering from an operation to remove a Brain Tumour and Radiotherapy myself, I did follow reports of his treatment/recovery very closely. Thankfully for me my Tumour was a different type to Richard's.
R.I.P. Richard |

I just woke up this morning and flicked on page 480 on teletext, the motorsport page. My breathing failed momentarily, and I spoke out loud "oh no" when I read the headline.
This is tragic news, and I am deeply saddened by the passing of Richard. I used to watch rally alot when he and McRae were in thier respective primes - and to see a Champion die so young, makes you realise how unforgiving life can be sometimes. God Bless Richard, may it be easier for you now. PAUL |
