The comment a bit odd when you are an economic immigrant in Germany.

Obviously the roads much more busy here in U K than on mainland Europe so the driving standards manic.

Sure you have a point hidden in there somewhere?

You mustn't believe everything you read in the Daily Mail.

Driving standards - clearly they are worse on the continent otherwise they wouldn't have 90 Euro on-the-spot fines! (He says, trying desperately to drag the thread back on track!). We may have our faults, but summary justice isn't one of them.

I actually think they drive better on the continent, I think the brit public tend to be lazy, stay in the overtaking lane because "its just too much hassle to move over... Besides, I was doing 70!" I will never forget being at a wedding and someone telling us how they "always stayed in the middle lane as it was safer if they had a blowout" and thinking "now there's a perspective !!!"

It is easier to be more lane aware abroad though because the volume on the road is far less than it appears here.

This was a thread purely to highlight my own downfall, though I thought 90 euros was a bargain, in this country I'd be sent on a course run by some 17 year old who would patronise me and make me resentful while loading me with three points so that an insurance company can justify legal extortion and say what a bad risk I am.

You mustn't believe everything you read on Piston Heads.

I think the standard of driving in the UK isn't too bad, it just falls over the edge of a cliff when you get inside the M25.

I thought that you thought it was a bargain to be 'escorted' to the nearest ATM by a (admittedly) handsome and charming black leather clad gendarme. It made your day - be honest!

So, in terms of driving standards does the outside lane of the M25 count as "inside the M25" ?

I think driving standards in London particularly have changed over the past couple of decades, and ... (I'm sorry...!) ... it actually does have something to do with immigrants. All those foreigners who learned to drive in other countries just don't know how to cut someone up properly.

the name is Black Saturday, and not because so many people get killed, but because so many people don't move an inch because of the traffic jam.

Try the two laner from Mexico City to the Aeropuerto: or back at rush hour......

They happily smash into each other, swearing and cursing and insult each other's mother and parentage.

But stop?

Nope!

Which is precisely why the new Civil Codes for Moving Traffic Offenses were brought in: the annual carnage as appalling.

A garage customer of mine in the early 1970s, charming French engineer, living in UK for a year, left their apartment Versailles with his wife and two boys and drove through the night towards their mini-chateau in the South.

In his nice Citrôen DS (23?? I think?), in the early hours he managed to hit a huge cow at around 140 KPH: which decided to join them through the windscreen.

I was pretty miffed: as we had only recently before finally sorted out the damned hydraulics and the car was written off....

Point of Order, Chairwoman....

If you get sent on a course (or , technically, opt for one) you don't get loaded with points.....nor in my case do you get patronised (although I expected it......you were right about it being run by a bit of a kid....mine mustn't have been a day over 45, the young brat He did very specifically tell us that attending the course was not a conviction for an offence and did not need to be advised to insurers, though, so I'll let him off for his relative youth

Of course the UK has had the Highway Code for some time. What many folks forget is that the laws in the UK are generally based upon our duty of care that is owed to all around us. Yes, sometimes the police will make a mistake but they also have the possibility to use their discretion in order to make the punishment fit the crime. This option is not available under a codified set of laws.
