I also think that a fine example of not wanting to own a road going version (although I'd love to have a go in one, just once) is the Metro 6R4! |

I had then opportunity to test several homologation specials. The T16 Pug was by far the worse of all, a pure crap. They had a special sales team located at the base of the Pug main building, located avenue de la Grande Armée. The last batch of cars went with many difficulties complimented by a huge bargain. The R5 T was better specially when fitted with the stage one kit (injectors and intercooler may be turbo and waste gate). The BX 4TC was the ugliest and had some understeer.
The O37 has always been my favorite, road or race, what an easy car to deal with. Very predictable, not vicious at all. I was lucky to work for Pioneer France, we had the real things - 308 and 037- for Jean Claude Andruet and fakes for shows and demos. Its always fun to discuss with Jean Claude who never really appreciated the 308 Michelloto. Re the Lancia he says its comfortable and easy like a "bonne paire de pantoufles" (sleepers)! |

Midget, dont you think that when you put heavy loads in the trunk its possible that a wiring loom, original or not, could be harmed?

You could try my mate Adam who has run a Volvo specialist garage for years - I used to deal with him quite a bit when I had my breakers yard....If he has the part I can collect and post for you if required http://www.readviewvolvo.co.uk/ |

Er, we English call it the "boot". And front brakes are discs not rotors.

Sorry for the boot thing, then… I remember talking about heavy steering that we, English, say like a boat anchor while French say heavy like a dead donkey!
Did Citroën send some ugly M 35 is our area? A piece of kit, fitted with a Wankel engine which gave later the BX which itself gave… nothing! Ya no those people… |

The Metro 6R4 production for homologation finished up leaving loads not sold, as also happened with the RS200. I can remember Ford dealers advertising them for very silly money, but of course anyone that bought one and hung onto it is laughing now..... |

For those visiting Paris on Monday next the 29, the Cathedral being unavailable you can have a look to a famous building due to Eiffel, le Grand Palais. Scrutineering of Tour Auto to start at 10 AM. Free entrance for programme holders, 10€.
Just for Mike, the famous TVR owner is listed with a… Mog' +4 SS #175. Former winners, Cottingham/ Smith switched from a GT40 to a Cobra. Won't go and feel it won't change anything in my life! Au suivant! |

Right Mike, they were leased and the drivers were not allowed to open the bonnet. Not even the hood, mind you! I dont know what happened to the survivors.
Re the BX 4TC, in principle Citroën made many efforts to buy back the few sold. In France, "in principle" means… nothing precisely! I could drive a wonderful RS200 at Paul Ricard but strangely keep no souvenir about it. Very impressed by a special Ford Puma but can't recall the full name. A limited batch for sure with wider tracks may be? All coming from the museum. Ha yes, the RS200 gearbox is not easy to cope with… |

Those people have really no savoir vivre, I'd say! An SLR, what else? London bridge may be!!! We will never ever let one of our jewels leave our shores. They should remember Jeanne d'Arc, we're not running out of matches!
And who invented the famous Fighting Spirit, hein, les Français??? |

If memory serves me well, Essex Police were able to take advantage of the surplus Fords for their road policing units, and could well be the reason that they later started using uprated Subarus and Mitsubishis. |

Regarding the Citroen M35, a parallel was the later GM EV1. The 1100+ cars were leased to customers, then on compulsory return all except a few were broken up by the manufacturer. Led to the documentary ‘Who killed the electric car’...... BMW did the same with the first Mini E 10 years ago, and guess what- nearly all those (circa 500 made) were crushed on return as well.... |

While talking about pics, can someone post one from a Castrol grid girl of '72, please? Not from period. Assuming they were circa 20 by this time, Zef is probably looking for a roughly 70 mamy. I wonder what he's preparing? A replica or a continuation? Ha, youngsters…

I’ve not got the cash nowadays to collect die-casts, but the race / rally transporters and support vehicles always attract my interest.... This latest Transit rally service vehicle got my attention....

MUK / ACU Mallory Test Day
A very quiet & moist day with just under 30 cars, 5 Side Cars and 4 solos for entertainment.
As usual the single seaters were dominated by F.Ford 1600 / 2000's but it was good to see a couple of 750 Formula Vees & a F1000 joining the fray. The tintops also had a 750 flavour, with 7 Clios 182's, a Nova & Peugeot 205 from their Classic Stock Hatchs & a 750 Formula car. Other cars out were a CSCC Midget and a MGCC Midget. Fastest car out there was Peter Daly in his 1600, using his local knowledge to good effect, overtaking the 2 litre boys with ease before the conditions caught him out as he left Gerrards, causing him to kiss the tyres on the Stebbe. After lunch just as the green flag was shown for the first bike session, the heavens opened with a 90 second hailstorm which set the tone for the afternoon, meaning we got home earlier and wetter than normal. Next day is Wednesday May 9th, see you there? |

I still get the odd smirk when I turn up for mountain rescue jobs in mine but it still manages to get further off-road than most and I get plenty of 'can I have a go' requests. Had a 'job' yesterday where it was surrounded by Land Rovers, Freelanders etc etc and two air ambulances but it still looked the part - well I think so anyway! |

As to Mallory, unless you have a strong Yorkshire accent, I guess you mean Gerard's bend and not Gerrard… May be we could nickname this right hand curve "Gerry'Mo" if you really like R's… Well, what do I know!
