We have the Sandown Historics this weekend, one of our major Historic events with people from interstate and overseas all descending on Sandown. (400 cars running)

Just checked the weather forecast for the event.... we had a sunny 30C today, tomorrow is sunny and 31C, and then for the event we go all European, with Friday (Practice day) 22C and rain, Saturday rain and storms with 16C and Sunday cloudy and it drops to 15C!

Ill still be there though

Schedule and entry list: https://vhrr.com/Competitor-list-sch...ndown-2019.pdf

My mate Bryan Sala (I used to run against him in Historic Touring cars) is running his Matich A50/51 F5000. He is quite handy in the wet.

There’s plenty to see on all three days from October 25-27, 2019.

The very best sports, racing and touring cars from yesteryear will battle it out for line honours (and bragging rights) in an atmosphere of fun, fury and the fabulous. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most important historic race meetings, Historic Sandown attracts competitors from all corners of Australia as well as enthusiasts from overseas. Forty events, 400 historic race cars and many of Australia’s greatest motor racing personalities will be on hand.

There will be plenty of off-track entertainment, as well including static displays of over 500 vehicles, and you’ll be made especially welcome if you and your friends arrive in your classic or collectible car – (or even on your old motorcycle). It all adds to the excitement!

Everything is conveniently located at Sandown Park, and there’s free access to the pits and the grandstand where excellent viewing of the trackside action can be enjoyed. A fine array of trade stands are added features, so come and grab a bargain or a piece of motoring history.

One for our technical gurus. If I install an electric water pump in lieu of the mechanical version, on my roadgoing MGB, should I remove the thermostat?

Maybe not a very helpful answer Peter but I would say 'probably' but if you do remove the 'stat it may be a good idea to fit a restrictor in it's place (like we always used to when removing them from race engines).
How about the supplier of your electric pump? Can they offer any advice based on experience as to what other people have done?

At least Stephen Fry is a Norfolk man, even if he thinks Swaffham is on the coast!

I blame Amanda Holden & co, not to mention Camilla - they turned the Burnhams into Chelsea-on-Sea.

Peter

I have a Davies Craig EWP on my Crossle for the past 6 years, no problems with the installation. Also fitted their digital electronic control box for temperature and fan settings. I would say this is essential for your MGB application. In respect of the thermostat, you should remove it and fit the blanking insert to allow for correct water flow and elimination of cavitation.

UK agent is very helpful.

Dont you think that removing the thermostat on a road going car will make a very long winter for the driver/passenger? What about the reliability of and engine having to suffer big temp variations?

Think that’s why you need to fit the control unit for the EWP. It then only pumps on demand, so in theory shouldn’t do so when engine is cold?

You drive all the way down to the Autodromo Fernanda Pires da Silva and first thing you see is a truck just like delta’s......

Picture 055 looks like a Dellow but I wouldn't like to say for certain. I *think* that's Admiral Nelson at the wheel, before he lost his arm. He was a Full Nelson then of course.

Is picture 315 (all cracking pictures by the way) a Cooper-Bristol by any chance? It looks very similar to the car that Roddy McPhearson used to slide (as opposed to strut) around in in the late 70's/early 80's.

Dellow was basically a trials car, rather than a circuit racer, but no it is not, but in the right area id wise.

Bonjour mes ami, all the pictures are from Goodwod 2013 (to help those who have the program) No 'Goodwood Specials' all authentic British models, pretty much as was!

Thank to all who compliment the pictures, much appreciated.
