For me, Carlos Sainz. Only 10 seconds off Albon.

I went with Albon for stepping up to the mark when Verstappen went out.
Kudos to Sainz. |

Volteri Badass for me. Brilliant start and never under any threat thereafter. Kudos to Albon who continues to impress. And also to Ricciardo for a good comeback after a bad qually.

I thought about Valtteri because that start was lightning, and he made everything work from there on. However the start was slightly flattered by Vettel's bad one.
I might have considered Vettel too, because he put it on pole with an excellent lap and then drove very well (with the exception of the start). However I just had to give it to Alex Albon who continues to be more impressive after being thrown unprepared into such a pressure-cooker environment. The qualifying target most people were giving him was to be passably close to Verstappen but in Japan he equalled him in qually. Then he survived everything (including a pretty rude move on Lando Norris at the chicane) to finish just off the podium. |

Nice to see the banter between the two of them (Norris and Albon) when being interviewed after the race......

Hamilton, there is nothing he could do when his own team is against him.
My location checks out. |

Bottas. Nuff said. (and no one voted for Leclerc here... how he got 2nd in DOTD on F1 is beyond me... he ruined his own race and title aspiration in the first corner)

Albon for me - got the most out of the car and staked a good claim for that seat next season. Kudos to Sainz, Ricciardo and Bottas.

Kimi? I dunno, I fell asleep during the race and woke up to discover he annihilated his team mate. I mean, what more could you ask?

Christian Horner was quite evasive when C4 were getting excitable about Albon. Like most people, I think that he's done plenty enough to justify his seat next year, but CH was definitely trying to keep a lid on it. Maybe Marko has some other favourite lurking in the background.

Sainz, what a drive to be up there, he deserved that fifth place, even very briefly got in front of Hamilton!

TBH, even though I'd give him the seat, it is really early days. But if he carries on performing as he is now and if he starts to really give Max a run for his money, it has to be a no-brainer.....

It is really interesting to see a youngster develop like Albon is developing, happens so rarely, hopefully he can make it interesting and beat Max a couple of times.

Sainz.
Credit to him and McLaren. The gap seems to be closing. |
