Meat 2012 Auto One V8Ute Racing Series (Merged)

Its here... the mean, loud fighting machines are BACK!

With a national calendar that shows a similar undercard round package to the V8Supercar development series for a fraction of the cost (and perhaps the notoriety!)

2012 Calendar...
Round Event Venue Date
1 Clipsal 500 Adelaide Parklands, SA 1 - 4 March
2 Tasmanian Challange Symmons Plains, TAS 30 March - 1 April
3 Trading Post Perth Challange Barbagallo Raceway, WA 4 - 6 May
4 Sky City Triple Crown Hidden Valley Raceway Darwin, NT 15 - 17 June
5 Winton Winton Raceway, VIC 24 - 26 August
6 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Mount Panorama, NSW 4 - 7 Oct
7 Armor All Gold Coast 600 Surfers Paradise, QLD 19 - 21 Oct
8 Sydney Telstra 500 Olympic Park, Sydney, NSW 30 Nov - 2 Dec

Website Here

There are some interesting names in the series winners list... quite a few that have gone on to do bigger and better things too...

Year Driver Car
2001 Rod Wilson Holden Commodore SS Ute
2002 Warren Luff Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2003 Warren Luff Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2004 Damien White Holden Commodore SS Ute
2005 Damien White Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2006 Marcus Zukanovic Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2007 Grant Johnson Holden Commodore SS Ute
2008 Layton Crambrook Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2009 Jack Elsegood Ford Falcon XR8 Ute
2010 Grant Johnson Holden Commodore SS Ute
2011 Chris Pither Holden Commodore SS Ute

So... who's on for the series win this year?

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
and the future?

I usually enjoy the utes, I would think this has to be the future though.

at my work, which is predominately middle age blokes, the car park is full of vehicles like hiluxes etc, very few falcon and commodore utes

it may be the future, but how will a high CoG vehicle like a hilux go around a tarmac race circuit? crap is the answer.

So will that mean they have to lower them, which takes them back to having a stance like the Falcon/Commodore, or go down the path of what the yanks do for CWTS?

Wasnt there a ute series for 4 cylinder utes back in the late '90's? Mr McKay, V8Supercars' favourite reporter, may even have been a 'factory' race driver for Mr Siddle's Nissan equipe, alongside Warwick Rooklyn

Is this series likely to end up as some sort of Camping World Truck Series? But with more makes...

Quite how the 16 Ford v's 16 Holden franchise thingumy hangs together might be interesting to explore

That's pretty much what it will have to be, except maybe for body panels.

What engine will they be using in the Ford FG utes? Is the supercharged engine allowed?

If you'd bothered to read the link provided by Peckstar....

the series has an engine equalisation policy, I wonder how they will equalise it, make the holden more powerful than currently, or make the Ford less powerful

I wonder, would the Hiluxes all be sponsored by someone like Avis or Europcar? I think I have seen "races" between them already, on the Thursday before a V8 meeting

I've got footage of the old 'sports-utility' racing somewhere. They ran as a support event for the trucks circa-1993

Who remembers the one-make Toyota Landcruiser ute series from the same time?

I have vague memories of the sport utilities running at one of the Sandown truck racing meetings.

There may be an overall power increase. I assume that in the past the 6 litre commodores were gagged but now maybe the Ford will be.

No they are not supercharged. There was quite a bit of work involved in getting the FG ute up and running with this engine minus the supercharger.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the front guys to get a handle(pun intended) on the FG after running so long in the BF.
I think Cam McConville will be a big chance for the title this year. He has gotten the hang of the ute and finished the year off very strongly. Ryal Haris will be strong if he is back and the usual suspects Seiders,Pither,Fisher,Elsgood. I think Rhys McNally could pull a few surprises this year as well.

that would mean then that the spped cafe quote is wrong

as that motor is supercharged

so how have they equalised them then My Panorama, and what sort of kW are we talking (the GS ute is listed at 315 kW)

It is the Coyote engine, minus supercharger. The commodore utes have been running an inlet restrictor. Now they have gone to Motec there is also now tuning modifications that could be done.

Sounds a bit dodgy without the supercharger........5 litres vs 6 litres.

Utes have been that way since the VE came in, hence the restrictor on the commodores

Yes I know, but wouldn't it have been better to stick with the old 5.4 litre engine in the Ford for closer torque between the two different spec engines?

5.0 will be fine once they are matched.. revs a bit nicer over the 5.4 too no doubt

Car is still for sale, couple of interested parties but just haven't parted with the cash.

Interesting that someone has bought Carson's car, as he has a written off BF shell as the FG is owned by V8 utes.
