I looked at the Wakefield date and thought '' crap '' as i usually make the trip up the road and thought that the date clashed with Bathurst before seeing that the '' big race '' is back to the long weekend this year.

Unfortunately for me, PI in September is the same weekend as the Singapore F1, so no F1 for me this year it seems.

Phew I was running a bit late on Sunday and thought someone might pinch my seat in the grandstand but luckily it wasn't the case!

Can't understand why people knock the Supercars but still won't go to a meeting like this. Great variety and racing and probably the worse attendance I have every seen.

Round 2 has been run and won

Congratulations to Kerry Baily and his awesome new Aston Martin based Sports Sedan on taking the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series round and the Clem Smith Cup.

John Modystach did a clean sweep of all 3 races to take the first round of the Porsche Staff Solutions International GT3 Cup Challenge Australia Series. Kane Rose returned to the series after his nasty crash at Sandown last year to take second, and debut polesitter Michael Almond took third overall at his home track.

Reece Murphy outpointed the Jarvis duo of Rob and Allan to take out round for the Hi-Tec Oils Australian Swift Racing Series.

Adam Beechey held on despite a spectacular off at over 200kmh to win the round for the Southern Star Windows Commodore Cup. Chris Stevenson was second overall and Ross McGregor third.

Simon Tabinor took out honours in the Dial Before You Dig Saloon Car Series, with Sam Milton second, and hometown hero Josh Kean in third.

Chris Smerdon returned to the top step of the podium in the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series ahead of Jim Pollicina and Justin Garioch

Images for Sports Sedans, V8 Touring Cars and Porsche GT3 Cup are now online at

http://shannonsnationals.speedshots..../2012/2012_r2/

Saloons, Commodores and Swifts will be online tomorrow night.

Shame to see the numbers so low in most of the classes.

This series has promised so much, but the $$$ drain of V8 'super' Cars, and the tight economy really seems to be hurting it. Pity, Rob is such a nice guy.

Maybe with the Quinn's input (and Aussie Racers ) the series might be able to rise up a bit.

Considering the numbers for some of the fields over the last couple of years, the fields are looking pretty good. Proddies have struggled to get into the teens at times. V8 Touring has had as little as 4 cars and now attract around 20 cars per round. Things are looking UP for the Nationals if anything.

And I goofed and put V8 Touring Cars on, but they are at Winton next in June.

Rachael I think you're looking at a different event.

The six categories at Phillip Island are as follows:

GT - 25 cars (in reality about 22-23)
GT3CC - 20 Cars - Which is actually less than round one at Sunny Mallala, but still strong.
AMC - 22 - strong.
TCM - 30 - as usual, excellent.
S/Sedan 18 - massive improvement this year.
Superkarts - 3,563. Okay, I jest, but it's still 38 which is a lot.

So I'm not sure how these numbers are disappointing. In fact, they stack up as being almost exactly the average number - if not over, in some cases - as most major national championships that are in a reasonable state of health this year.

Admittedly Swifts and Commodore Cup are badly struggling this year. But you're going to get that in this market.

I would argue that grid sizes in general are very strong given GT, GT3CC, AMC, V8TC and Sports Sedans have all grown their numbers year-on-year.

Is it possible that the Swifts could be added to the AMC grids, with bigger field of something else to fill their place? Or are the Swifts too far removed from the concept of the AMC?

Just looking at the AMC entry list, is that correct that Garry Holt has entered a Mitsubishi Evo 10?

I haven't seen Ted Robinson's FPV FG F6 this year, heard rumours they were building a new supercharged FPV FG GT, true?

Also I noticed on my105 that Ryan Mcleod has his HSV VXR for sale, any news on that, is he building another car?

Not sure where the FPV might show up next. A shame.
