I marshaled the last 3 superprix at Birmingham, what an atmosphere one long weekend multicultural carnival with cracking racing to boot. so yes I think it should be revived.

I marshalled all of the Brum Superprix and have to say they were brilliant.

If the organization of a new event could be sorted without local government interference it would be a fantastic event.

I would certainly volunteer my services.

Is it a race, or something to do with the BRC as mentioned in last weeks Motorsport News?

Knowning the media, they wouldn't have a clue about the difference between a race a rally or a sporting trial !!!

"Birmingham considers rally race" - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...ds/6924839.stm - not very clear is it? But I'd love to see the Superprix back...

They appear once again to have confused rallying with racing. Typical!!

Watching the TV report, they were referring to the Superprix as it used to be with racing back on the streets.
However, I wouldn't class the report as news, least of all headline news - it was basically "Wouldn't it be nice to have it back, what it takes is support from the council and an act of parliament"
All the organisers first time round want it to return (no surprise there), there's broad support with local residents too. Just needs parliamentary time again...

My understanding is that the British Rally Championship are keen to have a non-championship event in Birmingham next year, which the City Council and other bodies are keen to support (hence the Manx Rally fact finding trip). I don't think there are any plans to revive the Super Prix course or hold car racing, which is a bit of a pity in my view.

The Porto street races have done a lot to tidy up a rundown city. I make no comparision to Brum

They've done a number of events in the Midlands, in Nuneaton at least twice, called BRC LIVE! and I can vouch they were entertaining. A race in Brum would need more entries though.

i actually attended a few of the superprixs, but i was only 5 year old, so can't remember them. Looking back at footage and pictures, i would absolutley LOVE it to return. In the form of a touring car or something like Formula Masters / Renault World Series event. It would be immense !

This simply sounds like an exhibition event for a series, like the BRC live as mentioned and previous BTCC outings in Milton Keynes, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Its likely to be a proper stage - but Rallying not racing.

Anyway - I'm looking for people with pics they took at the Super Prix - anyone?

I still have my 1987 race programme.

I remember it was heavily sponsored by Listerine and Halfords.

not really no as they were effectivley advertisements so you cn reproduce in editorial content just fine. Also the copyright would have been held by the race organising firm which no loger exists.

Birmingham Super Prix Revival

Approaching the 27th Anniversary of the first Birmingham Super Prix, May I bring to the attention of forum users (and proud Brummies alike) a new on Amazon based around a failed revival attempt.
It's called Monaco of the Midlands by Alex Dennistoun, and it's well worth a read if you have any lingering affection for the Super Prix....
