Coventry City Centre

This is my latest creation, a circuit around the streets of Coventry. Perhaps one of the more famous city centres in the World, it was around 80% pedestrianised after the Second World War. A medievil town untill the war, the whole place was bombed out - the biggest casualty being the beautiful St. Michaels Church (Coventry Cathedral) which was burned down by incendaries.

My circuit uses some of the ill-famed Ringroad, and takes in some of Coventry's most historic roads. Of which are among the select few available for cars.

It would be around 3 miles in length, and would cover some of Coventry's landmarks. It is also unusually wide for a street circuit in many places.

I have found some pictures on the net of various points of the circuit.

The first one, is entitled Picture 7 (Named in order images were found, not thier place on the circuit) It is off Far Gosford Street, just after the left kink after the start.

It is one of the only remaining old streets in Coventry, and is bumpy as hell. When all the street worthy cars are cleared, it is wide enough for racing. The image is pointing in the direction the cars would go;



The next image comes from the top of the Cathedral spire, looking out onto Broadgate. Broadgate is the "nipply" bit on the map, next to images 1 and 2. The building infront is a shopping centre. Here is image six from the cathedral tower, onto I have drawn the path the cars take, they go from left to right;



The next image, shows Broadgate again. This time from the opposite end. You can see the spire of the cathedral beyond the shopping centre. This is image 2 on the map.



Image 1 - shows Broadgate in all it's glory. The taxi shown in the image is actually on what would be the racing line - and the image is taken from the approach of the second corner of the broadgate complex. In the distance is the famous Lady Godiva clock. On every hour - Lady Godiva and Peeping Tom come out on rails.



Images 3 & 5 are both of the new Whittle arches. Before the renovation of this site in 2002, the Coventry Palladium stood on this site. The cars would run underneath the magnificant Whittle arches.





The final image taken - is on the circuit itself. It is on the ringroad, fortunately enough for us. It demonstrates how cool the corner would be, it would be flat and sweepingly downhill.



The pitlane/paddock complex would be built on the triangular section seen near the pit area. At present this is a park, but it has become a hot-spot for vandalism. A pit and paddock complex would fit quite neatly within it's boundaries.

So there you have it, Coventry City Centre or Triple CCC as it would become known.

Sorry for being slow about this; I do like drawing trracks, but at the moment, I have no program on my computer to draw these things up digitally.

From the photos, it looks to be a very interestin/exciting street circuit.

It's perfect for racing IMO - only one part of it is Monaco-esque narrow. It would be like the Birmingham Superprix circuit - but better!
