Silverstone F3/GT
Is this just a Sunday Monday meeting or is anything happening on the Saturday? If there isn't, would I still be able to get in and have a look around the paddock?

This is a full 3 day meeting, celebrating the 75th annervercary of the BRDC as well as having the full British F3/GT package, There will be a race for the BRDC historic sportscar series, with some very nice cars.
Also on the Monday lunchtime, Nelson Piquet Jnr will be driving the 1978 Ralt RT1 that his father drove to win the british championship that year, and is currently raced by Frank Gomm in the Classic F3 series. |

the most incredible part of all this is that Octagon aren't really promoting it at all. Its on the GP circuit and potentially could be the 2nd largest meeting of the year. I begin to understand why they are not making enough profit!

It's not Touring Cars and therefore Octagon have no finacial interest in the series.
I'm looking forward to a 3 hour GT race on Sunday and 2 30 minute Group C races on the Monday |

the GT race will be good, I am bit hacked off that we qualify in the morning and I have to wait til 3.15 for this! Otcagon still gate the gate money and if they had marketed this properly I reckon it could have been second largest gate lets hope its a success so it becomes an annual fixture!

I'll rephrase then, It is my belief that Octagon have a greater financial interest in the BTCC than in either British F3/GT series.
But this are comments from another thread. I'm looking forward to some decent racing this weekend |

it's ridiculous.
i want to go to both f3 and btcc meetings. only it's not worth missing the btcc for the f3 since one race is on sunday and the other's on monday. i think it'll be saturday and sunday at silverstone and monday at thruxton. am i the only one having this crisis? |

same here, it's heartbreaking in a really pathetic way...
i think sunday at silverstone seems the best plan. get a bit of racing seen, then leg it to thruxton at full speed to catch the end of the day. |

you are obviously not there for the GTs then - they finish at 6.15pm or is the attraction at Thruxton after 8pm

:confused::confused::confused:
I'm confused (OK, I know that's not hard). I'm sure that my volunteering documents for the year originally had this weekend at Silverstone as the only BMP Triple meeting (F3/GT/BTC) of the year. (I'll have to check) Next the BTC pull out because they are supporting the ChampCars at Brands, now they put on a meeting at Thruxton on the same weekend. Am I missing something?? OR is it a deliberate attempt to take punters away from another series, afterall didn't BMP state that the 2 series wouldn't appear on the same weekends? |

I know the BTCC had to shuffle some of their dates around when the Champ Car date was confirmed, and I also know that circuit booking is a very tricky business. At a guess, the dats that the BTCC are now running are the only dates they could book at the time of the reshuffle.

Jason, you're right it was originally a BTCC/F3/GT meeting with the Thruxton meeting on the previous Bank Holiday, i.e. the date of the CART meeting. My guess is TOCA wanted to race at Thruxton on a Bank Holiday Monday due to noise/timing restrictions on Sundays and there were no other dates available.
I'm not an F3 but looking at the GT and support package it should be a good meeting. Shame I have to be at Thruxton. |

Not knowing the original calandar, didn't know they were supposed to be at Thruxton last Bank Holiday. It does make sense, testing on the Saturday and qualifying/racing on Sunday.

the btcc always race on the monday if there is a bank holiday but f3/gt tend to race just on the sunday which seems a bit odd. mind you, it does mean if there's a clash we can do both

Can anybody tell me what spectator access on the inside of the circuit is likely to be like for this meeting. Last weekend I got a great position on the club straight just inside Becketts & Ireland with general admission, no photo pass. Is Stowe accessible from the inside?

As far as I know this weekend's meeting is on the Grand Prix track, not the international

Grand Prix it is ...which is why I was wondering if inside at Stowe was accessible?

there is a path/service road all the way around the interior of that part of the circuit.
