Carfest

Oh joy! Decent venue, close to home, plenty of room as well
If is is half as good as it was last year, we are in for a treat! Fab cars, food & music. What more does a marshal want? Oh yes, a dry weekend!

How are they getting around the 18:30 curfew? According to Mr Evans the concerts will be going on until 23:00 each night.

SWCRacing has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Maybe the question to ask is does this event use up one of Oulton Park's permitted weekends for racing? Bad idea if it does....

My guess is a specialist entertainments licence for the event, but almost guarenteed to have engines off by 6:30pm still.

Something's going wrong when you can quickly sell tickets @ £60 for something that isn't a race, and similar for Goodwood which isn't really a hillclimb, but crowds of a few dozen turn up for the average proper meeting.

Can't think of much I'd less like to attend than Carfest, personally, not even for free.

I spectated at Carfest South last year and was my first festival experience, we'd already decided that we wouldn't do a weekend again (camping was cramped, with not enough toilets and showers and to be honest even though we're marshals the kill didn't really grab us and it didn't take all that long to see everything. The bands were ok) but that we might go for a day. However I have to be at Brands on the saturday (the day we'd want to go for Jools Holland) so its off the agenda for this year.

The thing is £60 does seem quite a lot but its a 13 hour event, which is "hillclimb", car display, concert and food/craft fair rolled in to one event, so worth it really. And a weekend ticket is much better value that a one day one if you want to see all of the bands.

£35+ for 90 minutes "entertainment" at a football match; £75 for a Bon Jovi concert. £60 really isn/t that expensive for a full day and evening.

I was at South last year, and got weekend tickets for North this year

£110 may seem like a lot of money but compared to an F1 weekend very cheap, and certainly more entertainment going on at Carfest!

Wait till the Oulton Park / Anglesey volunteering form gets issued. More should be revealed then.

The question mark is over the organising club. If you want to marshal the event then volunteer as normal. If the event organiser changes then this shouldnt really affect you.

Or in the alternative head over to Anglesey for a full weekend of racing instead of Carfest.

Seems to be quite a few less meetings at Anglesey this year - just in the main BARC / BRSCC with only an additional day with CSCC which may be a bit disappointing considering all the improvements going on over there.

That's the first 10 days on the marshalling calender sorted.

Please be advised that all marshals who are required for CarFest North have been duly advised - and yes it is a very small number compared to the number that volunteered

UPDATE - not everyone has been told if they are doing CarFest or not. However due to limited number of tickets from the organisers only those who have advised they can do all three days will be selected from. Hopefully successful volunteers will be advised shortly. However do contact Margaret Simpson if you put down for three days and not yet heard

Still time to volunteer for the BRSCC meeting at Anglesey if you don't get selected for Carfest!

Carfest - let down by basic communication

I understand from this forum and from a Facebook thread that only those marshals that volunteered for all 3 days at Carfest will be asked to marshal the event.

What grinds my gears is that no-one has had the decency to contact those who are 'unlucky', and after volunteering will not be required.

Surely we can be contacted either way to let us know if we can volunteer for something else, or if we should go to Carfest.

- Why can't we just get an email telling us if we are required???
- Post a list of those required on the BMMC website.

It's just rude after we've volunteered to then not be told that we are or are not required.

What if we have been successful and the tickets are still in the post, how are we supposed to know? Sometimes tickets only arrive a day or two before the event so at what time do I find out?

In this world of better communication, this stinks. I know that it's probably mostly down to the organisers of Carfest and not anyone marshally, but I think that this could be handled so much better.

CARFEST

Thanks to MarshalGirl for clearing up the issue about volunteers. I was wondering where the tickets were. Looks like I've got a weekend off as I could only do the Saturday. No worries, I'll be at Oulton on the 17th. All those who are working this weekend, don't forget to stay safe.

Not having volunteered for this, I think I can be quite neutral in my comments.

Please don't forget that the folk who deal with your volunteering are, just like you, doing this in their own time. They will not necessarily have the wherewithal to respond to everybody who applied but were unsuccessful. And how unusual is that in this day and age?

Only ever assume that you will be marshalling at a very popular event when your tickets and sign-on instructions arrive.

My instructions only arrived Friday. If you haven't heard anthing and want to find out if you have been selected may I suggest you politely contact Margaret Simpson and ask rather than rant on an open forum. Margaret works wonders for marshals as Chief Marshal fo BARC NW; BRSCC NW; and MSVR and will no doubt be very happy to speak to you.
