I've just been on the Jack Fairman post and the mention of the Nurburgring 1000kms reminds me that in 1958 and 1959 Stirling was co-driving with people who simply could'nt match his lap times. He therefore had to drive the bulk of the race distance in order to ensure victory.

I have no access to lap charts but I assume that he drove about 80% of the race. That must have taken incredible stamina, especially with the concentration required at that circuit. I know that he was very professional in the way he tackled the sport, but all the same!

Maybe he'd taken a visit to "Fangio's Pharmacy"!
