Does S2000 rules require manufacturer blessing before allowing a car to be raced too? What a major pain.

OTOH, to be fair, I guess a manufacturer doesn't want to see their car run as a backmarker b/c people won't care if it's Works/Independent--it's still a backmarker!

What's this about chinese money for MG Rover? Was a Chinese sponsor supposed to step up to back a DTM team?

No - a Chinese consortium was in talks to invest in the whole MG Rover group. Nothing specifically to do with motorsport.

So, is there a site somewhere that has tentative line-up published? Or perhaps someone could post one in here?

Should be a great season - can't wait

No, i don't think so, but as said before, Manufacturers can be very persuasive.
As you said, people often don't care if a car it's works or Independent, they just watch the result, and this is what frightens Alfa and Mercedes.

Yep, MG Rover have now called in the receivers so unless their racing has independent financing they will probably disappear from the line-up.

I wonder what the ITR thinks of this? I suppose it's likely if the chassis and the like is already prepared they could coax another company to lend their badge to it?

What good does it do to race a brand that doesn't exist anymore?

But why does a financially unstable company even consider starting a motorsport program?? I guess they were overconfident financing would come appear??

Really it seems true that ITR began this project, not MG. And i think this bankrupt confirms it.

No new cars but there are enough used cars, so why not race under the "MG-Rover Gebrauchtwagen" banner?

Whatever happened to AZ Roc? They used to run A4s in the STW? Why aren't they racing the DTM A4s? Are they still around? Racing somewhere else?

ROC Auto ran Le Mans with Reynard-VW in 2001 and 2002. After this team disappeared because of money problems, or at least that i heard.
