driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
the black car in fore ground "BoB Ravioli" looks like a low line schnizter car
teh car in back ground has twin headlamps is it still a 320 or 530 shape?

good foto though possibly Shah alam?

Type Kemora 1984 into Youtube and then click on the 7.41 clip and you will be able to see some good footage of two of the 320'2 racing in the Finnish Supersaloon series of that year.Ian.

The car in the background looks more like an e30? Wouldn't that make the photo at least 1984?

My understanding is that the JPS car was run for Ravaglia by Schnitzer at the '84 Malaysian GP at Shah Alam, the sponsorship being a local deal similar to that with Ian Grey and his more conventional 320 turbo(non lowline) around this time in the Far East. The Ravaglia car is the one whose whereabouts are at present unknown, anyone help? I really wish that someone with a knowledge of racing in this area and time would come forward because there are several mysteries to be unravelled! Ian.

It's mentioned that Eddie Cheever talked to RaceCar Engineering magazin about BMW Junior Team. But in what issue? Thanks!

He eventually sold the car around 1991 or 92 to a individual in Toronto Ontario Canada. After a while we heard that another person bought it and Korman in the USA did a restoration. Afterwards the car went onto Australia. I've heard it may be in Japan now, but I'm not sure.

Though we have a number of photographs of the car they were mostly snap-shot grade with very little detail.

This first shot shows one style of original livery during the era when Hohmann campaigned the car:

When Hohmann moved to Calgary he had my partner repaint the car in this basic black and white scheme. Shortly there after he sold the car to my partner.

My partner then repainted the car in this scheme which replicated the livery of another car competing in group 5.

These last three shots were taken while my friend did a restoration to the car in the late 80s:

Interesting to note these original cars had aluminum roll cages. My partner had a challenge getting it approved by the local sanctioning body
So the 320s were based on original body shells! Always thought they were tube framed like the Zakspeed Fords and, presumably, the Dallara built Lancia Beta Monte Carlos. But then again most Porsche 935s was based on original body shells too.

yes all Gp 5 cars are street car shells as were the rules of the day
latersome tube frame cars where built
Gp4 was less modification of parts than Gp 5 and homologation of parts fitted
Gp2 was homolgated parts only onto the cars in relation to production run build

many race cars had alloy rollcages until mid 1990`s when they where banned as they snapped in shunts pinging into driver doing more damage !!

1077 Norisring

Thought this might be of interest.
Cheever & Winkelhock at Norisring `77.

Also the ex Schnitzer Finnish 320 turbo, and next to it the Spa winning Schnitzer 635.

Here is an old article of E21 racer. It´s a car that has been discussed in this topic. Hopefully it´s an addition of this topic even though non-finnish can´t really understand a thing!

Thanks Ian. We are constantly, albeit slowly, gathering information, stories, history etc. of older BMW´s to our website www.sharknose.fi

If we find more information, old stories of Group 5 E21 and we can publish story without copy-right vialation, I´ll post a link here.

Hi Stuart,
The old Schnitzr Gp 5 2002 was with me, but has recently found a new home with a well known historic racer. It will be appearing soon with it`s original Schnitzer turbo engine.
The Gp 5 320`s Brian had were also with me for a time, the ex Cheever car is now in the USA & the ex Peterson car is in Asia, There is some doubt as to whether the Greek 320 ever came to these shores ??

I'll post this to keep the thread going. It's my favorite picture of a 320T, partly because It's my car at Lime Rock in 1979 being driven by Jim Busby.
previously the car was driven by Stuck / Peterson then after by Jim Richards in Australia. It's the last 320 and a factory lightweight.

So your the lucky man to own one of the 3 JPS BMW's that raced down here in Australia. You would be interested in this thread.

http://www.sportssedans.com.au/forum...?a=topic&t=111

Are you able to shed any light on the car history?
