Jonathan Adam - BTCC Driver??

Is there any truth in the rumour that Jonathan was testing a VX Racing BTCC car today? If so, how did he get on? Is he being considered as a potential replacement for James Thompson.

Yesterday I think... was testing Hines' car at Donny(?). Don't think he's a serious candidate for VX, just a potential customer for a second-hand Astra.

He's impressed this season, but I think he may benefit from another learning year in Clios or Cupras before stepping up.

I think he'd be excellent in the BTCC. If you can win races in Clios, then you are definitely good enough to make the move.

He needs another year to learn how to survive in the BTCC - it's easy at the front of the pack but whenever he was in the middle of the pack the racecraft was a little tatty.

Its a case of learning to survive the taps and slides. Its a shame in a way the production class has gone, because that is the test of whetehr a driver can really perfom in the BTCC.

He could easily handle it - in his first season out of Karts he went straight to the front of the grid in the Scottish Formula Ford Championship at Knockhill last year. Apart from the couple of Formula Renault starts he made at the end of last season, he's only actually had 2 years of car racing.

The fact he's well funded (by various sponsors and the family Construction business) doesn't harm things at all - unlike some young drivers he seems to have bags of talent as well as tons of cash.

The BTCC is a very expensive learning ground, no matter how good he is. I would recomend he does a year in SCC - which is a distinct step up from Clios (ask any driver whose done both) and nearer BTCC, but will cost around 90k rather than the 150k - 200k plus he'll spend in his first year in the BTCC
