One of the world's largest F1 merchandise vendors has produced a report critical of the pricing of F1 merchandise.

Well they are like football stuff (I guess). If people pay those prices...
However it surprises me that they are so expensive. After all it is extra advertising for the sponsors. I always prefer the 'old' stuff anyway! |

Great site - great read 'enough Jordan stuff to last a decade' adn the football fans think they are ripped off ! Oh and still one of the most significant sales is Ayrton - will Schumacher still sell any after he retires - I think not.....

You might be surprised about Micheal selling after he retires. He dominates the market now. Partly because he is do integrated with the Ferrari image. It was the first time Ferrari allowed this to happen with their and their driver's merchanise.
Senna, of course still does well nowadays. Who wouldn't want a double S T-shirt. |

TGF is hogging the merchandise market way too much, especially in Ferrari merchandise, no Barichello hat or T-shirt in sight anywhere.
Nothing but Michael Schumacher hats, Michael Schumacher coffee cups, Michael Schumacher Shirts, Michael Schumacher umbrellas, Michael Schumacher sunglasses, Michael Schumacher underwear, Michael Schumacher this, and this and that and blablabla... No wonder people get sick of him. |

ASCII..i can just at what you say.
It's a pretty good indication that Ferrari/Michael is actually still far more popular among fans, contrary to what critics insist that Ferrari/Michael is killing the sports and nobody likes them anymore.. As Glen pointed out, nobody was forced to purchase Ferrari/MS merchandise, yet still despite not being the cheapest around, they could still sell in such huge manner. And to critics who says how Ferrari/MS doesn't give a hoot about fans, well, i think this report quite clearly shows among the top teams, Ferrari's mechandise are more accessible/affordable, and not more expensive, than what their rivals sell. But overall, i still think teams ought to just lower their prices all round, as Adam says, it's free, or even profitable, advertising for teams, and do their part to attract more F1 fans and make the F1-experience from the merchandising sector more appealing. |

Just to go along with Glen and GT_R. Michael has won 6 more WDC than anyone else in F1 and 60 something more races than anyone else. It is both unsurprising and just that most of the merchanise that is sold is associated with him.

Yes, but what can a Barichello fan buy to show his support?
A Michael Schumacher cap? A Ferrari shirt? Only 2 of the things that keep screwing him up (and strangely he seems to like it!) are for sale. |

If the demand for RB merchansise existed, you can be sure that it would be filled!
Or. No, wait - don't tell me... Michael has insisted that Rubens's contract states no souvenirs be sold in RB's name. Of course - veryone knows that. |

It's like the Manchester United situation. Michael is a huge 'brand' and his merchandise is sold in huge volumes all around the world, not just in countries that have GP races. Very popular in the far east.
I guess some people just like winners? He is also fortunate to have such an astute agent in Willi Weber, who must have made a fortune out of managing Michael, Ralf and Claudia Schiffer. What's the going rate - about 20%? |

Just a statement of fact, he's too "popular" because too many people like to reflect their own pathetic little lives with someone or something (extremely) successful so that they can think that they're better than someone that doesn't support that person/team.
Or maybe it's just because they respect his/their hard work and the success that they achieved with it but that's too outrageous IMO! |

People like winners. People admire excellence. Nothing too outrageous about that.
Not sure what you mean by using one's fanaticism to think one'self superior - you've fallen off the sensible wagon there matey. |

I have sell this bloody stuff for a living and it really isn't easy. We don't get new seasons merchandise until July, and no one wants to buy from the previous years range when the 2004 stuff is on the way. When said new seasons range does finally land it often turns out to be exactly the same stuff repackaged. Believe me when I say it'd be easier trying to sell snow to the eskimos.
Also, asking fans to spend £35 on a damn t-shirt is ridiculous, it's not they're made of high quality material or anything. The F1 industry in general is imploding at the moment and the merchandise retailers are feeling the strain more than anyone else. |

Some of the Schumacher merchandise is laughable I think....I mean, who wants a Schumacher salami or you know....some of the merchandise goes too far.
I blame that Willi Weber....he's making Michael seem like a total sell-out! |
