That penalty on Ocon was ridiculous. Since when do you get a penalty for running off at turn 1? Of course he's going to keep his foot down, everyone would, what is he supposed to do just pull over to let a few cars past? It's not his fault there's still grip out here and not a gravel pit.

Even if he did actually gain something, it would only have been a couple tenths at high risk of getting a puncture, so I doubt there's any evidence of it being intentional.

If you penalise Ocon, then why not 3 penalties for Ghiotto for each time he ran off?

Why not review every other driver that ran wide at turn 1 throughout the season and apply penalties? Really poor stewarding.

I think it was a fair penalty. While entering the corner, Ceccon was more or less alongside him but after his mistake his lead was a couple car lengths. He clearly took advantage of it, even though his lead was never in danger. It's a good question what else he could've done once he was already off. I guess if you make a mistake, make sure you lose time with it.

(I saw someone do a similar thing in the GP2 start, that was not penalised although I'm not sure he went as wide as Ocon was.)
