Eurosport GP2 Coverage for Monza

I've just been looking at the TV schedule on the Eurosport website and it appears that there will be no coverage of Race 1 of GP2 at Monza this weekend, not delayed coverage, not highlights, nothing. Nothing on Eurosport 2 either, race 2 however is LIVE. Why is it that Eurosport seem to hate anything that isnt Moto GP or WSBK or the WTCC?

It's not that they hate it - they have shown every GP2 race live so far, I suspect coverage will sort itself out.

i noticed this aswell. every weekend before the gp2 weekend i set the sky plus recording a week in advance but i noticed the absence of gp2 on saturday. strange, i thought it was hauling in the viewers. unless kirby has made everyone switch off i see no reason for dropping it. maybe it will appear. if not. hopefully like monaco we can have some highlights as its the only other race i never caught live. i dont want to have to wait a week for the itv show (which is a fantastic show imo).

According to Eurosport International's own schedule this is what they'll broadcast.

GP2 Series MONZA Race 1
Date : 03/09/2005 14:45 - 16:00
Broadcasting : LIVE Commentator :
Last update : 22/08/2005 15:41:00 By :

GP2 Series MONZA Race 2
Date : 04/09/2005 10:00 - 10:45
Broadcasting : LIVE Commentator :
Last update : 22/07/2005 17:16:19 By : paris_lt

This is what the 'other' Eurosport channels show.

British Eurosport only shows Race 2 live
French Eurosport shows both races live + F1 qualifying of course
German Eurosport shows both races live
Eurosport 2 doesn't show the races.

Not race 2, unless either the GP2 site is wrong or Eurosport is, they had Race 2 on an hour after its 'live' block the last two meetings at the very least.

Eurosport's site is wrong then, because the Turkey race started at 0915 BST, and there's a post here from someone who watched it live, talking after the finish of the race - and that post is timed at 1020 BST.

The Istanbul race 2 was scheduled to start at 11am local time (8am GMT), which is an hour later than Eurosport originally had it scheduled for.

Eurosport then changed its schedule and inserted an hour of badminton highlights.

In the end the start was delayed by 15 minutes.

Eurosport showed it live.

What annoys me, what really annoys me is the fact that British Eurosport arent going to show race 1 at all! Okay I can understand them not showing the race live as there might be other things on that get better ratings, but I always thought GP2 got at least fairly decent ratings. Such a shame.

The other infuriating thing is that after not showing Monza race 1, they're showing Spa race 1 five times!

no way...

honestly i think Beurosport are wrong here. i mean with monaco at least we got full coverage later on in the day. fair enough, US open, world cup football but surely gp2 at least get highlights tonight...? not happy with this. will have to wait for the itv show to see footage of race 1.

What we need is Motors TV 2, yes Motors TV are in no way perfect but they do stick to their scheduling and the series would surely benefit from being broadcast on a dedicated Motorsport channel. IMO.

i agree saleen. motors tv my not be world class television but with what they have they use well. any channel that shows a full days racing on a btcc weekend i would welcome with open arms. you can bet if motors tv got hold of gp2 we will see not only the races but practice and qualifying too....

Nobody has or watches Motors. 2am on Eurosport is better than any time slot on Motors TV.

Plenty of people watch Motors TV Russfeld, it has many top International series, not least the DTM and the LMES. Eurosport regularly change their scheduling for motorsport or dont show the race at all, Motors TV always stick to what they say they are going to do and Motors TV is growing all the time, and so is TV ratings.

Plenty of people? MotorsTV gets abysmal ratings, and is availible in very few areas. GP2 is better off having crap coverage on as big a network it can get at as good a time slot it can get.

Wrong, Motors TV gets good ratings and is now available throughout Europe. As of September 7th the channel is available on cable in GB too, as well as already being available on Satellite across Europe. How many people throughout Europe can receive Eurosport 2? Not many, there are more people in Europe who can get Motors TV than Eurosport 2, and that is the channel a lot of the GP2 races are shown on.

GP2 is better off having good reliable coverage on a slightly smaller network than having Average and rubbish scheduling on a slightly larger TV network. The only thing Eurosport really care about is Moto GP, WSBK and WTCC. Everything else is just a side show to them, they messed around F3000 plenty from 2000-2004 and fair enough the series wasnt exactly strong so maybe you could understand it, but now they are doing the same with GP2 which IMO is a strong and thriving series. Eurosport have had enough chances.

Nope, they need maximum eyeballs watching the races. Thats the only way the series is going to have any value.

Id even go so far as to not show the races live to make sure they got better time slots. Dont show Race 2 live, let the F1 networks broadcast it immediately before or after the GP. Also gives them time to edit it down to a nice presentable package.

Can you confirm this?
