no not really, they're very good, and generally cheaper than the minichamps versions. It's just that most people given the choice always seem to go with minichamps in my experience.

Which is a shame on the whole, as Minichamps constantly use the same casting when really they shouldn't. e.g. the 1999 BMW V12 LMR, the Ixo (well Onyx at the time) casting is spot on, the Minichamps didn't bother with the louvres over the front wheels. But Minichamps do tend to hold value better, if that is an issue.

Today at Circuit de Catalnuya I got hold of the BAR 005 Jacques Villeneuve drove last year, in 1/18th size, made by Minichamps.
I must say that I had the Hot Wheels Renault R23 from last year too, and Minichamps is far ahead of Hot Wheels still. The BAR features highly detailed intra-suspension winglets... and I just found it to be much better.

Plus the fact they are the only decent Ferrari models going!

God I wish I could afford BBR's.

I got 3 ixo models (a Jag, Saleen and Audi R8) for £25 at the BTCC meeting last sunday, the Saleen is a great model IMO, the others aren't too bad either, and I was pleased with the Panoz I bought not so long ago by ixo as well, I rate them very highly.

I don't think they're bad either. Minichamps are, on the whole, marginally better, but then they tend to cost more too.

Ixo are also beginning to produce some cars which are quite difficult to get, though I wish they'd hurry up with some more of the pre-war Le Mans cars (La Lorraines and Alfas, please!).

jj2728 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
one of the nicest diecasts in 1/43 that i have in my collection is the IXO 1968 lemans winning ford gt-40.....the only problem i have with it is the moulded on wiper...other than that it is superb....both SPARK and BIZARRE are making some fine models, though i don't think they could be considered diecast since they are resin....all the same, for the money they are quite good....

Just got a Rothmans Senna Williams FW16 today from TSF1! Truly, utterly gorgeous. Makes the old, non-tobacco model look decidedly shabby!

(Damon - nice packaging! )

Model Car collecting

I have been collecting Formula 1 cars for nearly 5 years and Ihave roughly 20. Ihave nearly collected the Ayrton Senna diecast models that are 1:18 scale (10 inches) that are around £50. I also collect 70s, 80s, 90s f1 cars al 1:18. The latest car I have orded is the 1991 Nigel Mansell 1:18 Willians-Renault with Ayrton Senna clinging on to the back after his car broke down at the end of the British GP. My most presous car is the Bently that won Le mans last year.
I am also looking to collect Indycars/Champcars but I don't think thet sell them in Britain.
I aslo collect books and anuals like the Cart Autocourse Yearbook and F1 Yearbook youve got the idea.

You can get the odd old Onyx or Minichamps 1/43 scale Indycars. My brother used to collect them, though I haven't seen any around for a while.

Sounds like you've got quite a good collection. I collect 1/43s myself - I don't have enough room for the bigger sizes! I used to collect F1s, Jaguars and American muscle cars (amongst other things!), but now I concentrate on Le Mans cars, of which I've got just over 200, and cars from other Sportscar events.

In fact, I'm moving house and have spent most of today screwing them into their bases and putting them in boxes. It's quite fun to start with - it reminds you what you've got - but it does take a loooooong time!

I've been collecting a year and have 54 or something. All F1!

I've had to stop for a while due to the cost and the frequency that they have been released lately. But my eye was caught last night by the 1:18 scale Senna first win Lotus in full John Player livery.

Very nice!

Sorry matey but I think you missed the boat on that one. They're a world wide sell out. We sold 36 of the things in just over a week!

Well I only have a modest little collection, all sportscars, all 1:18th

Audi R8 Crocodile (Race of 1000 years winner)
Porsche 911 GT1-98 (98 LM winner)
BMW V12 LMR (99 LM winner)

I actually picked up the BMW at silverstone this weekend for a very cheap £15, Almost got the Autoart Bentley as well, but couldn't strech to another £39...

I think that you are thinking about the winners series officially licensed by the ACO and built by Ixo, there are already 15 or so of these available in blue ACO packaging. They are available from many retailers. These are probably what Grand Prix Legends have available.

I used to collect model cars left right and center (mainly because I had nothing else to spend my money on!!!) but more recently I only either buy model cars which are absolute favourites of mine or buy models I could get signed by the driver, for example I bought a 1:43 replica of Sascha Maassen's F3 Opel Dallara (1994) on eBay last week to intentionally get it signed at the LMES round, other wise I wouldn't have bought it!

I mainly collect my favourite sports cars now (Dallara LMPs and Courage C60s high on that list) and I have almost completed the full Panoz collection (missing the LMPO7 and the JML car which raced in the ALMS last year) and maybe the odd F1 car if its a personal favourite too.

I only recently decided that I was going to buy most models only to get signed and have so far got the number of signed models upto 18, with 6 ex F1 drivers included in that.

My most expensive models are Michael Schumacher’s 1:18 Jordan and the Panoz GTR-1 that raced at Le Mans in 1998 also in 1:18 scale. At most times I try to get a bargain, but with these two models I could not resist.
