Australian GT...

For our English / European fans - a Mosler is racing down under in the hands of Craig Baird & it was quickest in 2nd practice around the shortened GP circuit in Adelaide...

Big grid! I always though the Australian GT had small grids.

As I remember Fire the opening round of the Australian GT championship usually gets big grids and then usually gets a little smaller from there on. I looked at the results a few times last year and there was anything from 15-25 entries for most rounds, still that is as you say a pretty decent entry.

Yeah, the first two rounds are supporting major events on (for a lack of a better word) iconic tracks so they get big grids.

The Porsche Carrera Cup also ceased to operate for 2009, so the series picked up a few cars there.

and depending on what gets bent this weekend, there could be 37 entries for round 2 in a week or so...

All in all though, we could see somewhat healthy grids for the year, certainly an improvement of last year...

35 cars qualified for Round 2 at Albert Park as an F1 support race - great #'s, that Mosler is flying again...

One racing lap completed and safety car out. A few laps under the safety car then race called under SC to allow the V8's to start on time.

All that just to race for one lap? Doesn't this happen to them every year? When are they going to realise it's not worth their while to turn up?

That is a joke, they should just have an endurance race there, not sprint races that can be cancelled because of tv times!!!

Just went on the Australian GT website & it is Trojan Horsed

Our races on friday and saturday were on time and ran full distance, and had some great action!

www.natsoft.com.au for race results around australia

sundays was a dud. It started late due to others over running, and as we were on before the V8's, we already knew it would be cut a BIT short... so when it all turned to poopoo........the early bath was inevitable.

It didn't help that the safety car caught on fire and we started behind a car with its hazard lamps flashing!

It was a great show to see Bairdo in the Mosler flying through the field in races one and two shame about what happened in race two when he dived under the Lambo and it all went pear shaped. Awesome to see some bigger GT fields in Australia, the GT3 format has helped but those fields will be smaller as the year goes on. A lot of teams come out for just the marque events like Clipsal and F1.

It was great to see a excellent field of Sports cars at the GP. Shame the races were not longer but until Aust GT management can develop their own 'marque event', they will continue to be cut short on already short races.

I will have the footage from the GP on youtube in the near future.

What I did enjoy seeing was all the people rush to the fence to see the only truely diverse class of acing of the weekend then watch many of these casual viewers walk off when the V8's race started! Why is that...

Because the F1 crowd is a different breed to the V8 most likely & can assimilate more with GT's...
