Holden Motorsport - A Shambles?
Lets say Gorey is looking to upgrade his race team for season 2006?
Can he go to Stone Brothers and arrange a mutual commericially sound deal to buy a supply of decent engines - absolutely, anybody can buy engines from the Stones! SBR simply don't sell plain chassis at all though, so Gorey will have to buy some new Beehag chassis which are availiably to anybody. Now if he was to consider a switch the Holden. Could he walk up the Holden Motorsport engine shop and arrange an entirely commericially sound supply of near-HRT spec motors? Hell no! It's purely a closed shop for the "chosen ones", who happen to be ex-TWR only. Can he ask Dencar to prepare a couple of brand new HRT-spec race shells to form the basis of his new WPS Commodores? Hell no, he will have the door slammed in his face with an instruction that this "intellectual property" is only for the "chosen ones", who happen to be ex-TWR only. How can HMS be anything other than a shambles? |

At least Holden has a "factory" squad that is getting some results unlike FPR which IS truely a shambles don't you think?
HMS has always been a bit of a closed shop, but in the past it has worked for them mostly. Perkins has also supplied other teams and is now supplying one of the "chosen" teams as well so they are certainly not the only alternative for Holden power anyway. I think SBR supplying other teams is great, but now supplying three teams already, do you really think they could keep supplying more and more teams efficiently? There is a limit to how thin you can spread yourself sometimes. |

True, but Im sure Larry or Paul Morrris would take his dollars for a nice engine/chassis deal.

Why should any team be able to source a "HRT spec" chassis, when the HRT spec wasn't the standard Dencar spec. HRT supplied their OWN spec to Dencar for construction (it wasn't Dencar's design I believe) on the condition it wasn't arbitrarily released to all and sundry.
In V8's no-one has the right to others intellectual property. If that IP is available, then good on them, but it isn't a right. HMS have decided in thier own wisdom to focus on a few factory supported cars, as they beleive it is thier best chance of overcoming the SBR/888 enemy. I firmly believe that if Holden provided thier top IP to all runners, they would encounter a dilutionary effect on points from other Holden teams, allowing the two front-running Ford teams to romp away. "Shambles", no way, just a prudent mechanism to reach the top. Is it fair? This is motor business not motor sport. |

Maybe Gorey should ask Larry for cars and engines? Then theoretically his cars wouldn't get hit by Larry's as often, cos they should have the same power :P

I think that HMS should put their eggs in HRT, HSVDT, SCAR, GRM, Dodo racing and the PMM group

I don't think Perkins would like that list, either....

The only thing wrong with the theory is that HMS is now dead... its the phoenix of TWR now
Meantime, you can actually purchase a supply of HMS engines for your race team... but there is a mega asking price that makes it financially prohibitive..... $650k/car/season is my understanding... plus driver induced damage.... If you take the argument to the logical conclusion though, if I rocked up to Mr Booth with $500k, I would not be able to place an order for a V8Supercar from the Ford Motorsport group. I would more than likely be given the phone numbers of DJR/BJR/888 who are more comfortable in selling their past seasons' equipment.... |

I heard recently that TWR would only be helping 3 teams - HRT, HSVDT, SCAR; ironic, as they're the only 3 Holden teams that I don't like.
Is WPS Motorsport running Commodores next year? This would make sense with the way Ford have treated them over the years... |

Didn't SBR get a new chassis for the Pirtek/Stegbar falcon at the middle of the year?

Nope, they had the new one ready to go mid-year, but apparently Mr Ambrose was quite anxious to stay with the old nail... or that's what I heard anyway...

Now both HRT & HSVDT both have all their parts supplied entirely by single supplier Holden Motor Sport who DO NOT supply anyone else with anything ( a few bits for former & minor partner PWR ), do not offer chassis for sale and deter buyers of engines with sky-high unrealistic prices. Holden Motor Sport don't supply any others so they are absolutely not an "independent" technical supplier.
Now both HRT & HSVDT have a workforce supplied entirely by single supplier Holden Motor Sport. Thus HRT & HSVDT & Holden Motor Sport are not seperate entities, but rather a single technical entity that should only have 6 test days in total! |
