Corktree should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The FIASCO War

Is it simply me or is the topic of the FIASCO War just one of those topics that is avoided as part of the collective urge to forget it? Or is that it is rarely mentioned because few understood it or the consequences in the first place? Just curious since there seems to be little here to show that it has ever warranted much attention.

Don, give us a potted history then, if you feel up to it. Might trigger some comment/discussion.

I think even now a reasoned discussion might be difficult...it seemed to generate incredible passions at the time, as all things of little importance in the scheme of things tend to do.

Well, we are off to a good start already since I would suggest that it was not of "little importance in the scheme of things," but rather quite the opposite.

Important in motor racing, yes. But when compared to e.g. what's going on in Egypt right now, motor racing is like all sports - persiflage to the max...not that I'm complaining about that, of course.

That was not clear to me in your comment, not realizing your intent. In that case, we are in complete agreement, of course.

For those interested in the FIASCO War, you might wish to read this series by Mattijs Diepraam regarding that particualr bit of lunacy:
Poachers turned gamekeepers: how the FOCA became the new FIA.

It is both about the only generally available rundown on the spat that is worth reading as well as being a good piece of research to boot.
