News about Marko Asmer?

Does anyone know what is going on with Marko Asmer? Last year he was a test driver for BMW and now he is nowhere to be seen...

Is he still part of BMW? Is he racing in some championship?

BMW tester last year, British F3 champion previous to that (after about 10 attempts or something stupid like that)

I don't rate him particularly highly but it's never good to see champions out of a drive

Iv been checking google religiously for months and there is nothing other than Estonian papers reporting that he was looking for a drive in America last month. He placed 10th in his 1st year in British Formula 3, 4th in his second and won it in his 3rd year. Not quite a Jaime Alguersuari but far from ten attempts! Although i will concede that he took a year out to race in Japanese Formula 3 and only came 7th.

Have you really never heard of him? He was BMW test driver last year, whilst also racing in GP2 with Fisichella Motor Sport International. The year previously he was British F3 champion, the year before that was a Japanese F3 race winner and is also a runner-up in the Formula Ford festival. Hardly an unknown! He has only completed 5 seasons of racing, there wasn't '10 attempts' as someone has said. After racing in just a few British Formula Ford events, he was testing for Williams at Barcelona in 2004 in official tests! Shame that he doesn't appear to be anywhere this season.

Oh, he really struggled in GP2 i seem to remember so that probably didn't look too good on his CV.

Has he still got a rich and influential daddy but an apparent surfeit of talent? Then theres hope for him in F1 yet...

He's never had a rich and influential daddy so far as I am aware.

When he won British F3, in some style I might add - points table here, it was a fully sponsored drive by the team-owner, right down to the nomex socks!

Isnt his Dad the head of the MSA in his home country? And either Rich or a Politician, or both?

From Wikki "Asmer's father is a former racing driver Toivo Asmer, who was Estonian Minister of Regional Affairs between 1999 and 2003."

So yes to the second then.

Believe he mathematically won at Croft when Engel was taken into the kitty from the start at Clevaux by his team mate... This was maybe a week or two after Hamilton had been rescued back onto circuit with his engine running, so Engel took a bit of convincing to kill the engine.

Poor guy, he was devistated. His team mate's face was the very definition of 'sheepish'.

Was absolutely nowhere in GP2 last season... even if he was thrown into a subpar team midway through the season. I had expected him to do a bit better though.
