With the ballast weight being reduced and cars like Sutton behind him, I don't think he'll make it that far up.

Have we just seen our first strike of the year? Expecting Mat Simpson to get a slap on the wrist for trying to take out the leader whilst he was being lapped.

Not sure. He was defending like it was for position. It was less of an issue than Hamilton hitting the leader.

I think Hamilton's was more of a genuine mistake. He pulled across to take the corner without realising Cook was there..

You could argue that Collard tried to defend the position as well, but Simpson was definitely more "robust"

Do strikes from last season carry over in to 2019, ie 12 months from date of offence or do all the drivers start the season with a clean slate?

Yes, they carry over for a full twelve months. There are a few drivers with one strike today because we're a day or two earlier to start than last year.

That was exciting and about as expected as the Spanish Inquisition!

Cookie really was the star of the show; I wrote him and BTC off as likely the weakest Honda combination pre-season. Happy to be proved utterly wrong, on that showing he is a title contender, pure and simple.

Delighted to see Jake on the podium, a very very talented young man. Has Shauns mob really improved the Audi that much or was it the conditions and the squishy bit between wheel and seat? I suspect the latter, but always happy to be proven wrong.

I fail to see how WSR, Dynamics, PMR etc. got the tyre call so wrong. Ash and JP wanted slicks, Ash was told he was running wets and JP went along with his Engineer. I don't know about any of the other driver decisions re slick/ wets.

Nic H really has come on as a driver. Yes, he dropped back toward the end but showed some real skill.

Good to see JP back in the groove, silly mistake on the grid but hey ho. We can expect some racing rather than making numbers up.

Michael Crees, who I had down as being a duck out of water was brilliant. Good on ya kid!

Matt Simpson - runaway winner of the ******** of the weekend award.

And Oliphant really impressed. I wasn't convinced about him last year in the Merc - but his Porsche racing was good - but to me he had the measure of Turks in R1. AJ seemed more at home in the 3 than the 1 too. Best of the WSR drivers is going to be a very close call this season!

I suggest Tordoff needs to stop walking under ladders/ best go and see a gypsy lady. The guy has a curse!

An amusing moment on ITV4 there. With the new laws regulating betting adverts around sporting events, there's a distinct lack of Bet365, SkyBet and ScumBet ads on the coverage now.

Paulo on the grid: "If I was a betting man, I'd stick some money on [Driver]"
Steve Rider: "GOOD JOB YOU'RE NOT A BETTING MAN"

Did Cook have crossed tyres on in race 1? It looked like he had drys on the front and wets on the rear...?

I didn't think that was allowed?

Tyres are confusing me. Yellow sidewalls are soft? Blue are wet? What's green? Inter? Why aren't more cars on that?

Jake Hill is still 2nd in points.

Shoutout to Jelley and Team Parker, two top-10 finishes already.

That was a fantastic battle for second. 4 tenths covered 5 cars at the finish!

Wow a truly fantastic race this time! Great battle between Sutton and everybody towards the end of the race. And I'm happy for Jordan, stellar job he's made and I've got a feeling he's going to be a factor in this year's title fight. Strange that Turks and Oliphant were that far away, maybe it all comes down to the tyre choice.
And it looks like the best weekend for Hill already

Brilliant race.

I don't think Tim Harvey is correct in saying the soft tyre didn't work due to the cold. Soft should be easier to switch on in the cold, and as AJ is saying, Ash was fast until the tyre went off.

Soft tyre did what it was meant to do.

Guess that’s based on Jordan’s ‘slight’ speed advantage on the straight!

BMW is brilliant in a straight line. Subaru is incredible on the brakes and corner turn in. Swings and round-abouts.

Subaru was setting fastest laps at the start on the softs, and dropped back towards the end. That's tyres, not engine power. It was about to get eaten alive by the Mercedes, Toyota and Audi.

I think Brands Hatch indy circuit favours RWD, and the Levorgs with the lack of long straights.

Wait till we get to the other circuits and you will see the RWD teams moaning about BOP.
