Mika Hakkinen retires from the DTM
Mika Hakkinen has retired from the DTM - story here.
Personally I'm quite relieved. Mika is one of my all-time favourites and somehow it didn't seem right for him to be messing around in this series with drivers who will never measure up to his standards. The first win at Spa was great, bringing back memories of past triumphs, but since then it's all been a bit frustrating. Thanks for the good times, Mika, you were a fantastic driver and a gentleman! |

I'm glad he retired too, but more because Touring Cars doesn't need 'Stars' like Häkkinen to attract spectators.

As I understand it he's retired from racing altogether, but he has said that before

Ohhh what a co-incidence, just after Alonso has left Mclaren

A shame but he really wasn't making great waves in DTM.
I'll miss Mika but better to leave before it goes pear shaped I suppose. Whatever, he'll be remembered as one of the true motor racing greats (well, by me at least!). |

A bit like Alesi, great times at the start and then...but Mika will always be great.

Means no ex-F1 drivers in the DTM line-up though. First time in a very long while that's happened.

But there are none of those ex-F1-big names like Alesi, Frentzen, Hakkinen. Let's see if we see some in the future (Ralf? or Fisico?) |
