as a young touring car fan, i hav'nt seen too many crashes but the ones i have seen are:-
Sopers Crash (2001)
James Thompson - Brands GP (2000)
Jason Plato - Croft (2000)
Dan Eaves - Snetterton (2001)
Colin Blair - Knockhill (2001)
Cleland- Soper - Harvey (????)
er?....
um.....

And thats about it for me so if you have seen any big crashes like the ones above then drop a reply.

Kelvin Burt's crash in 1996 was tremendous.
The start at Snettetton in 1993 was a big one too.

Charlie Cox - Thruxton, 1995.

Kelvin Burt's crash at Oulton Park was a very, very nasty one. Also remember Alain Menu almost ending up in the lake at Oulton Park one year, he was definitely down by the reeds by the time the car stopped (backwards) - they've since put barriers down that whole stretch of the circuit, so it's unlikely anything as dramatic as Kelvin's or Alain's moments will ever be repeated.

Kelvin's crash at Oulton has to be the worst I've ever witnessed, I was stood at Knickerbrook. Certainly not the sort of thing I want to see when I go watching racing. A friend of mine was marshalling that day and said that Kelvin was actually trapped underneath the steering wheel. I think he was very lucky that day, it could have been a lot worse. I'm actually quite surprised that it took Menu's excursion towards the lake for the armco to be extended, I'd expected changes after Burt's crash because didn't he hit the very end of the armco and so that seemed to add to the force of the whole crash.
As for Menu, that was actually quite a graceful looking slide towards the lake

I'm sure this topic has been done before and it's one I always approach with a fair bit of trepidation because sadly you always will get some people who just want to go to a motorsport event to see a big crash. At Thruxton BTCC I stood behind a group of lads who were discussing what a boring day it was because they hadn't seen any serious crashes or anyone getting killed, you can't even refer to people like that as motorsport fans, just mindless idiots

The same goes for the videos that Chris mentioned, I simply don't understand the mindset of a person who wants to watch a video of nothing but big crashes.

Toyota always done well in the shunt department. 1995 tim sugden rolling the car at brands hatch. Also andy rouse and will hoy and will hoy and julian bailey always done well.

Right, I agree. I went to a CART race a few years back and when somebody would crash, a big cheer went up from the crowd.

Couldnt agree more. Big crashes are inevitable in motorsport and may look spectacular but they are no substitute for close, safe racing. People who go to motorsport events hoping to see a big crash really have no idea.

Well said. In Touring Cars where in some cases contact is inevitable, that's entertaining and can result in fantastic racing. Seeing contact in Nascar or Formula 1 is plain scary.

Although I don't like to see too many accidents, both Charlie Cox's shunt at Thruxton and the Radisich/Watts startline shunt at Brands in '95 were probably the most spectacular.

As well as being dangerous, shunts cost a huge amount to repair! When teams (especially at lower levels) can't afford to repair thier cars, they leave the series and grid numbers suffer!

i think platos crash at thuxton in 2000 was nasty,when i frist saw it on tv it shook me up!
