My all time has to be Martin Bolsover. Some of his sportscar records still stand in that MP43 afetr all these years.
Another who I consider should have more championships to his name is Alister Douglas-Osbourne. Competition was fierce in his day with many in the running. Exciting times they were. Priualx was a breath of fresh air and had won his title by the August Shelsley. The season before he got among the big ones with a Hart 2.8 in the back of his Pilbeam. Not bad going. |

Interesting.
here goes....yes, Bolsover was something else. Just look at what he then did on the circuits too in great big McLarens etc. Ladbrokes Pilbeam at Prescott on Qualifying rubber special compound in 1983, and then in the MP43 at Shelsley Walsh in 1984 in a car that (I think ) had a 2.5 in it not a 2.8. Record still stands today. Gentleman too. What's the matter with the rest of them?? Even Grace couldn't get that one in the Queen Anne MP43. Rowan was bl**dy clever. Took the title from a V8 and only lost it to a DFR V8 of Max Harvey's wedge with Griffiths at the wheel. Grace did chuck that Pilbeam about whenever Le Tissier hadn't put it in the hedge. I can see him now at Augsut Shelsley 1993 chucking it into Bottom Ess sideways. 124 mph was quick then.... "Well I thought I'd better chuck it in and then sort it out.." FTD. For me, Grace and Bolsover are equal first with Wight Jnr a close second. Graeme carries such immense faith in the aerodynamics and the way that the car sticks to the ground that other 'older generation' drivers cannot get their heads around it. same happened in F1 with the ground effects. Old school could not keep up. Mind you, Lane is the exception to the rule. Second fastest ever ascent of Shelsley. Quicker than Fleetwood.... Who's the Daddy now? Colton would have won it after Priaulx moved on. Interesting chat Ladies and Gents... |

In order:
1. Andy Priaulx (Just the fastest although didn't stay long)2. Martin Bolsover (How long can records last) 3. David Grace 4. Graeme Wight (Faster than David but more accidents) 5. A-D-0 6. Ray Rowan (Engineer plus committed driver) 7. Chris Cramer 7. Martyn Griffiths 8. Roy Lane (should be higher up for staying fast for so long) 9. Mark Colton 10. James Thomson A few others should get a mention. Roger Moran, Peter Harper and a favourite of mine, Kenny Allen |

I'm no expert here at all, but in view of his stamina, surely the 'best' if not on pure speed must be Roy Lane.

I'd have to go with Roy Lane, too, mainly because of the length of time he's stayed competitive. I can't recall how many times he's had a top 6 number, but it's an impressive statistic.
ADO and Bolsover were both magical, too, and Priaulx was astonishing. There were also some stars who didn't win, and I always rated Adrian Hopkins as one of the best drivers in a very out-of-date car. |

Tony Marsh
Won his first RAC British hillclimb championship 1955 in a 1.1 Cooper-JAP,and won another 5 times. Still running on the hills and has a brand new car! I don't kknow his exact age but he is a lot older than Roy Lane. Lister |
