Start a V8 Supercar team for $1000.00

How's this for an idea.... very very far fetched, but worth the try anyway... how about finding 600 v8 Supercar fans to put together a decent team. I would reckon a lot of them would come from here... If each person contributed around $1000 there would be enough to put a competitive single car package together. Am sure from the 600 people we could find pit crew, logistics, designers, mechanics, etc, and if all went bad at years end, all equipment could be sold and a percentage refunded... say everyone got 30% back... I'd fork out $660 to part own a V8 Supercar team for a year... Seriously though. Secure an experienced driver who needs some miles (someone like Mark Noske...), and if all goes well.......
Get a lawyer to write up contracts for everybody involved so that no one could do the runner and everyone was even... get some people with experience to help run it all.....

who's in??

I think the biggest problem would be running a car that is half Falcon half Commodore.

I would see candidates voted in to the "run" the team, with contracts drawn up for stake holders only to save arguments, similar to any company with share holders....
And I did only mean a Dev team.... who can afford to run in the main series these days anyway...
I'm a holden man who works for 4 ford teams..... I just love the category... I honestly wouldn't care which side I was with, as long as there were good engineers, a good driver and good car involved.... although the BA's seem like the good ones at the moment...

Copy and paste your name under here. Lets see how many we can get seriously interested. You never know what might happen... the bigger this gets, the bigger returns you all may get.....

Start a V8Supercar Team for $1000

I like your theory... What has me intrigued may be the tax implications here....

I was wondering if it could be stuctured like an Alpaca farm, or tea tree oil plantation, where the money could go in up front, assets leased from other parties, all kinds of tax deductions assessed by private ruling as legitimate....

Hmmmm.... if you could spend $1,000 to be part of a race team (and $600k would really only buy you a HPDC Series entry, albeit a good one) and claim it on tax... you may have yourself a deal...

Its a wonder that the financial management experts in the series hadnt undertaken a similar kind of feasibility exercise?

how about starting with 600,00 points available for 1 dollar each and a minimum of 1000... depending on how the team progresses will depend upon how much each point will be worth giving people the option to buy out other people and make profit or cut their losses...

If we've paid all the money, there would be a lot of spare room for a livery - Seeing it would be a team 'of the people' - you could turn up to each round with a couple of marker pens - get fans to sign the car for $10-$20. There's rom for a lot of autographs on a V8! A few extra grand each round...Works for me!

sound like a real life version of the ten-tenths V8 fantasy championship....so there should be plenty of interest....especially if some took it as seriously as they take running their fantasy team (me included)

I'd be keen to contribute.....so long as I could design stuff for the team I'd be happy...lol

Bahodie - that idea sounds like what John Faukner tried a few years back, with a grid on his car, he tried to get a number of minor sponsors to fill the grid....not sure how successfull he was though.

For a gorilla I could probably buy a third of a Gemini race car and actually drive it

But lets say I had a grand to waste, would the price include a free anorak, cap and lanyard?
