Chris Townsend should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Formula 3: The 1980s

Does anyone have observations/information on the following

1980 season

Stefan Johansson March 803 – a chassis number at a specific race so I can work out which of his two cars was the spare

Mike Blanchet Lola T770

Rick Whyman Chevron B43

Gerry Amato March 783/93 said to be ex Rob Wilson; Chevron B47

John Village Ralt RT1 [even previous user would help]

Bernard Devaney March 793 ex Eddie Jordan, but Jordan later ran a 793 as well in the 1980 season, was this same car?

Kenneth Acheson March 793 used when 803 proved troublesome in early season – was his 79 car

Ian Shaw Pilbeam MP45

Thomas Kaiser Ralt RT1

Leo Andersson Ralt RT1 [British GP]

Chris

Chris, some thoughts but no proof I'm afraid. just my recollections! The Blanchet Lola was the awful 79 car, slightly updated, some times called a T770/772. Whyman B43 was the ex-Barry Green/Gaillard car from I think. Village RT1, possibly the ex-Warwick/Acheson car.

I don't recall Eddie J in a 793 in 80, he went from the 803 to RT3 IIRC. May have kept the 793 from the previous year, after he'd given up on the B47, which 'may' have been the Amato car, though the latter was wide nosed as I recall, which may imply it was the Devaney 79 car.

Acheson's 80 793, was definitely his 79 car. The Shaw Pilbeam was the 79 MP44 updated. Can't recall now who used it in 79, John Bright perhaps ??

Hope this helps, sorry can't be more exact !!

Didn't John Bright have the Wheatcroft which he built himself from bits or was that earlier?
