cos should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BTCC Finals - Silverstone - 14/15 October

Starting the buildup to the final BTCC weekend of the season early!

Contrary to earlier announcements, Andy Neate won't be racing an Astra; he's trying his hand in the SEATs instead. However, there will be a couple of extra entries: Motorbase will be running one of their newly-bought Toledos, and SEAT will be running Thommo, Plato and Turner.

Alfa Fan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
And, its up to a 27-car grid now, even without Neate.

PS, watch out for a possible announcement of a further two-car Super 2000 team for Silverstone.

The Seat news does not suprise me at all, however I do I have one question where is the car coming from as I was under the impression that Turner and Thommo where using the same car?

That's fair enough, now then brings up another question. I am also lead to belive that the WTCC spec Leon's are a different slightly different spec to the BTCC one's and have been setup to run on Yokohama tyres rather then the Dunlop's.

Also does anyone know if Thommo will have to carry the late entry ballast, as he is technicly a new driver to the championship?

SEAT and BMW have indeed build a lott of cars for this season.

Will Thommo have the WTCC Red Bull livery?

Well, I kind of hoped that would happen.

The car is ballasted, so Thompson will have to run 'new entrant' ballast - thought there maybe leeway to move that around. Turner effectively has no ballast from Brands Hatch's results.

This also means Turner will have completed 50% of the season and is elligible for the ETCC race...mind, so is Thompson with the relaxation of the no-WTCC driver rule.

That said, apparently Seat might not suffer weight penalties because they made a three driver entry with #4 Plato, #14 Thompson and #24 Turner (you pay per number).

Not sure if that's correct, but time will tell. Will be handy.

Despite the Yokohama/Dunlop switch, I reckon Thompson's Leon prepared by Oreca will be more than handy!

The switch from Yokos to Dunlops shouldn't be a problem. The team have set-up data to it's a relatively simple change. Thommo's WTCC car will have a flat bottom, which I believe the BTCC cars aren't allowed to run. Don't know if he will be allowed to run with it, if not I assume it's an easy job to remove.

Is Thompson a new driver though? He was always planned to be racing at Silverstone, which makes Turner the extra man.

That said, as I recall TOCA did say that the ballast stays with the car not the driver, so Thompson's success ballast carried over to Turner, which carried over to Thompson, etc. Turner is using the 2nd BTCC car so in that case he would retain his sucess ballast earnt at Brands (i.e. none) and Thompson would be the new driver.

SEAT's press release says Thompson will have his usual WTCC engineer so definately some Oreca involvement even if it's not the full team.

Thommo's WTCC engineer John Waterman will oversee the car just as he has whenever Thommo has appeared in the BTCC this year. They sort of travel around together.

Waterman of course was the brains behind Yvan Muller's five season with VXR in the BTCC until leaving for SEAT at the end of last year.

Good to see Ferrier get a race chance in the Toledo after testing it last year. Motorbase's David Bartrum sounds a funny guy too!

It's all well saying there's 27 cars entered, but I'd still rather see 15-20 cars racing competitively, than another 5 or so cars pootling round off the pace. Or these people who enter with an unreliable car and have next to no spare parts to do the job adequately.

As long as there are 10-15 competitive cars out there, any others are a bonus, as long as they don't get in the way of the competitive guys. Drives in an underfunded or slow team can get you a chance in more competitive equipment.

I was wondering "what happened to Tom Ferrier" earlier today curiously, so I'm chuffed that he will be out there. Alan Gow's announcement that "we'll decide how comeptitive you're allowed to be after you've made the effort of turning up" doesn't sound like good or fair management though.
